I wonder if they will do a cheap sell like they did for win 7. Might be the only thing that might persuade me to purchase it.
I don't think they had a choice. They are so far behind iOS/android and every month they get further behind....
Not bothering with Windows 8 unless they have a classic start menu option, not wanting the Metro UI at all. So unless they have an option for classic setup going to be sticking with Windows 7.
I really can't see why I'd upgrade my desktop to it, except for developing on it.
I do think however there is a VERY good chance I'll buy a tablet with it on, once there is a nice enough piece of hardware.
As it stands I've been running it on my x86 Acer tablet jobbie, and its much better than my iPad2 for browsing the web, but is massively lacking in tablet apps at the moment (well duh)

There is a strong chance I'd dump my laptop or Android tablet or both for a Windows 8 tablet, we'll have to see how it pans out and what the hardware is like.
Until I test the desktop version I can't say whether I'll upgrade, have to see, might skip a version as with Vista - I've been too short of time so far but when a full beta lands I'll probably install and test it. I like to have the latest things, and I'm sure I'll have to get used to Metro at some some point as I can't be a luddite and stick to 7 for 10 years like all the "Windows XP is still the best" eejits do. People are scared of change, and in my old age I may be getting a bit like it... must... resist!
Unless I get a tablet with Win8 on it chances are it wont go on my desktop, I tend to skip a generation, XP to Win7 to Win9...
I'm hoping for an Ultrabook that can twist and behave like a tablet, ideally with wacom digitizer!
For anything super small and large battery life I'll stick with Android.
Getting a cheap retail version of 7 was a good investment imho, if they do another pre order sale for 8 I'll be sure to pick one up if for no other reason that it being a bargain.
Same here - I'm not really convinced that there's enough change over Windows7 for it to be worth me spending the money to "upgrade". Plus I find Metro a real disincentive at present. But like you - if they do the major discounts that they did for pre-orders on '7 then I might splash out. I got my full copy of Win7Pro for about £60 as a pre-order.
Perhaps like GSVTrig, I'll take the "long view" and skip Windows 8 in favour of Windows 9. Although I wonder if Windows8 would work on the little Acer netbook I've got - suspect it would but the screen size requirements might stop it.
Very interested to see it on a tablet!
Hmm, I was kind of wondering whether the ARM version would run on any of these cheap 'n' nasty Android tablets that you see around a lot, e.g. Sumvision Cyclone. I suspect not because invariably those cheapie tablets have low res screens and don't have multitouch capability. Be nice to know though.
I was hoping for a May release but thought that would be too good to be true, gives them time to decide on the classic start menu.
With the Server 8 beta, I could do away with the old Start Menu, IF the new side menu (on desktop UI) worked properly and made it easy to find applications. Sometimes when I hover on the right hand side it works, and it mostly makes sense, but it doesnt always appear and there is no alternate Start Button to force it to show, its all about how well you hover.
We all know the code for the Classic Start Menu/Button exists because it was there in the developer preview last year, so I would expect there to be an option, reg hack or something to re-enable it. I personally think it will re-appear in the final version.
I actually like the Metro GUI, but sometimes seems pointless because opening applications will take you to the desktop GUI. Until there is enough software to utilise the Metro GUI its going to sit around in boredom for a while.
I suspect it may 'bellyflop' rather than 'land'
Oh no! I'd have graduated by then.
