I like the physical buttons - apart from anything else it helps to give a little bit of visual difference between SIII and iPhone4/4S.bringing with it support for OpenCL 1.1, DirectX11 and Renderscript. It's also suggested the the SIII may be taller than the SII but could be as thin as 8mm, though, this writer is still of the opinion that with Android 4.0 and Google's recommendation for soft buttons, the height could have been maintained by removing the unnecessary physical/capacitive buttons.
DirectX11 on a non-Windows phone? What's Microsoft going to think about that, or is that a "theoretical" aspect of the new graphics chip and one that Samsung won't use for the Galaxy?
Still looking forward with great interest to seeing the first "proper" review of this phone. Even better if Hexus/Samsung are going to run a competition to get one!
You mean that - like the LO - it'll be hideously expensive and only available in a very few locations?!We suspect this comment was in response to recent image leaks and consumer complaints over the late release of the device, which some have speculated was to be held later in London in an attempt to associate the device with the upcoming London 2012 Olympics.
O well. Couldn't wait and ordered a galaxy note last night. Not too bother though as I bet the £20.50 a month i'm paying for the note is nothing compared to how much the S3 will be based on the HTC one X launch of £36 a month...
bring it on
I hope they get this launch right, the Samsung Nexus S was awful from the start..very buggy...but the SII/S2 was perfect from launch....might be worth waiting a few weeks to see what it's like before plunging
That's a nice price, and I think you're spot-on with "premium" that folks are going to be expected to pay to get the S3 when it comes out. For example, I suspect it'll be at the £600 price point sim-free.
I was playing with a 'Note at the weekend - seriously impressed with it, but have you applied for planning permission for the hand extension you'll need to use it? (or maybe I've got dainty lil' mitts?)
Take note Sony - that's two SE owners that you've lost (or in my case - come July) they really need to lose some of the design "purity" of the Xperias to put in a user-changeable battery. Hopefully the S3 - when it arrives - won't follow the trend for fixed batteries.
Exynos 4412 is still Mali-400 MP4, not Mali T604.
I figured I use my mobile for 1) Texting, 2) Email, 3) Web browsing - I barely touched my 600 minutes during my current contract so figured size wasn't really an issue. Plus with all these things you get use to it.
Also got to agree about the Sony statement - My X10 was nice but no replaceable battery/sd card in the new models? It looks like HTC are doing this too. Supposedly it makes the phone thinner but the notes only about 9mm think and it has both replaceable! Just hope Samsung don't make this mistake with the S3/4.
I wish I hadn't got the S2 and held out for the Note now, Either way the S3 is going to be an amazing device!
Wow (shadowsong): Arthran, Arthra, Arthrun, Amyle (I know, I'm inventive with names)
I'm not sure what to believe, the SII featured the Mali-400 MP4, however Samsung officially claimed a 50% boost in graphical performance. As the Mali-400 design doesn't scale to more cores it would have to be heavily over-clocked if this were true, I just wonder how this would affect power consumption, which is supposed to be improved. This is all assuming the 4412 announcement wasn't to lead us down the wrong path of course, as most details lately have been emerging over the Exynos 5 dual-core.
For example, Samsung just released its advertisement PDF for the Exynos 5 with no mention of the quad-core Exynos 4.
Some new official details by the way, at 2GHz the Eynos 5 dual-core will churn out 14,000 DMIPS, features USB 3.0, SATA 3.0, support for LTE modems and 8MP image feeds at 30fps!
I swear the Galaxy 2 was just released, lol.
Unfortunately G3 wont help that , as soon as any small particles (e.g. sand) get in then it will destroy the gorilla glass, i think Gorilla glass is only really good at protecting from metal and other blunt/sharp large objects(keys). Gorilla seem to just keep banging on about its performance of pressure strength, no idea who whips out their phones and just holds there finger in one place with a ton of pressure! (ignoring dropping, as their testing never seems to show impact testing, only gradual increases in stress). As soon as they find a way to resist sand and other small things then id agree they are epic .
But at the minute they are a bit over hyped imo.
Haha, typical! It does scratch regardless its just extremely hard to see most scratches that normally occur, you were unlucky with the keys though!. I never bought into all the hype and always use screen protectors on mine, sure it can look a bit scratched but whenever i want to i can take it off and replace for a brand new looking display, and the gorrila glass does it job of being stronger from inpacts... i swear my O2x should be destroyed, cant help being clumsy with it since buying it , just now i knocked it from my 1metre tall desk into a metal bin...lol.
