I was under the impression that it was only quad cores being launched first, with the dual cores in June?

Yeah that's still correct AFAIK, by 'extreme end' I think they mean a skt2011 replacement.

The sooner the better - I want Sandy Bridge prices to come down!

My hope is that the the older i5 and i7's go down fairly quickly

Hm, is this going to be worth an upgrade from a 2500K? Probably not I imagine... will be interested to see the numbers once they're out..

Re: News - Intel to launch Ivy Bridge on April 23rd?

A single gen is very rarely a worthwhile upgrade, especially since this is a Tick (die shrink) rather than a Tock (architecture change). IGP should see quite an improvement (hence why Intel are refering to it as 'Tick+') but if you're after CPU power you'd be better off saving your money. There's already a preview review out at anandtech: http://www.anandtech.com/show/5626/i...-core-i7-3770k

I guess we just have to wait and see. For those waiting for a price decrease on SB, i think it will take a few weeks post-launch before that occurs surely?

I wouldn't expect too much; based on past releases, it will probably only drop by a bit before it sells out.

It seems both the retail Core i5 3570K and Core i7 3770K have a 95W TDP:

    http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-UQiHuelUQM...1600/stamp.jpg

At least with current samples tested overclocking seems to more difficult under air than SB due to heat:

The Aria chap was using a retail CPU and he commented that the ES samples overclock better.

    Thought they was 77W originally?

CAT-THE-FIFTH: "The Antec 300 is a case which has an understated and clean appearance which many people like. Not everyone is into e-peen looking computers which look like a cross between the imagination of a hyperactive 10 year old and a Frog."

for all intents it seems to be the same card minus some gays name on it and a shielded cover ? with OEM added to it - GoNz0.

I thought so too. At least with the better IPC it means an improvement in performance/watt,although if the overclocking results are true it seems SB is similar overall when it comes to overclocked performance and IB will need better cooling. However, power consumption is probably lower for IB when overclocked and the IGP and IGP related features are improved.

Here are some reviews of the IB based Xeon E CPUs:

    http://www.expreview.com/19072.html

    http://www.chiphell.com/article-3163-1.html

They seem to have a 69W TDP though, although there are no pictures of the retail box.

Re: News - Intel to launch Ivy Bridge on April 23rd?

Had I the disposable cash right now, I'd jump on IVB to replace my ageing Phenom II X4, even with the prospect of Haswell due out next year on yet another different socket.

Re: News - Intel to launch Ivy Bridge on April 23rd?

This could explain the TDP increase:

    http://www.chip-architect.com/news/2...es_Sandys.html

The GPU is even bigger now than before in production E1 samples as opposed to the engineering samples. I wonder if they hit some issues which needed a GPU redesign or have improved the GPU performance??

It seems a Core i7 3770K review has been leaked earlier:

    http://computershopper.com/component...0k#review-body

They do some games tests, although the HD3000 scores look a tad on the high side and the A8-3850 scores look a tad low.
