Hmmm not sure I approve of this. The guy seems a nice fella (from reading those articles) and I'm sure he works very hard. Surely though on the list of people to be knighted you'd have to put him behind all those national heroes serving in the military, or in our hospitals or schools.

Pretty sure he is rewarded handsomely at Apple. Feels somewhat inappropriate that he is recognised on behalf of the people of this country when he doesn't even live here.

If you're in the Military you get tend to get decorated/given medals rather than knighted unless you do something particularly noteworthy (somewhat ironically given the origin of the title).

It's a strange system, but I imagine that now it's not just for services to the monarch, it's very difficult to give knighthoods out to everyone that deserves them. You end up with pretty much every senior doctor, firefighter, police officer, etc in the country deserving a mention. As a result, the knighthoods tend to go to people who stand out in a particular field. Is it still deserved? Perhaps not, but no less so than Brucie.

Re: News - Arise Sir Jonathan Ive of Apple

This just goes to show how worthless a knighthood is in this day and age. They used to be a sign of honour and bravery and dedication to a cause, now you can get one just for doing your job?!?!

Personally I don't think a lot of Apple's design, they try to hard to be cool and tend to come over as sterile and cold.

I'd hardly say he has done a lot for the nation, I'd never even heard of him until I read this article and will probably forget him in about 30 minutes time...

Re: News - Arise Sir Jonathan Ive of Apple

Complete joke, the title of Sir is unfortunately meaningless now. As above, he may be a nice guy and work hard, but so do a good percentage of the country - he's just doing his job. Most people don't even get a thanks. OK so he's made some nice looking computers, what about the people who actually make them work, or numerous other professions worthy of such titles. As I said, it's a title I don't recognise any more...

As an aside, most Apple stuff (at least now) is just a glossy rounded rectangle with an indent in the middle of one of the shorter sides...

Blimey, considering some of the worthless scrotes who go by Sir (and I know one of them!) I'm surprised by the strength of feeling against his award on this thread.

I shall buck the trend and say that I think it's highly deserved, well done Sir Jony!

I am still confused, more so when i thought it was an American getting the award , seriously i dont know how this deserves a knighthood? hes working for an American company in America and helping them get loads of money from UK etc... Hmm not sure, may aswell give my dad a Knight hood... been working hard at a local semiconductor for 35 years and has brought in countless designs that have saved masses of money and power, no he was just doing his job like any normal person!.

Anyone with the power to inspire school children into engineering jobs should be knighted IMHO.
