I disagree completely - any mobile operator who has limited bandwidth on their packages will love this, as it's a perfect opportunity to sting people for massive amounts of extra cash when they fail to realise just how much data transmission their torrenting takes

A while ago I was without internet for a couple of months, but had a decent mobile signal (enough to stream video), so I tethered my mobile and was using ~20GB per month, only added about £35 on to my monthly bill. This was on Orange with a 500MB internet allowance.
I don't mean to sound cold, or cruel, or vicious, but I am so that's the way it comes out.

I think the idea is to use it on wifi

Brings a new meaning to a low powered torrent box. Pretty awesome idea. Might test it out on my touchpad.

For those planning on using it on mobile networks, you should check your T&Cs closely. Three's prohibit filesharing on their network.

thanks, i'll have to find out more about that, sounds similar to when their chief exec said their network was "built for data" and "tethering isn't a problem" then shortly afterwards they banned tethering.

Three also prohibit tethering unless you're on the One Plan however ive been tethering on my unlimited sim only package for a year now and not once have I had a complaint or email.

I get higher speeds via my H network than I can via the copper wire.

Think I'll stick to my "Download VM"....at least I have a decent amount of storage available to it

I can imagine that it's good for the tea-leaves who like to watch low quality rips (and "cams") via their phones HDMI port though......

That's fine if you want to risk it; personally I'm not happy giving them a reason to cancel my contract and bill me the cancellation charge of 90% my remaining monthly bills.

Well if you use SSL they'll have a hard time proving anything. If they were to check what im downloading it looks like im streaming data from <insert site here> being as I use SSL + port 443.

Also; If you're on a monthly contract like I am then it wont really be a problem if it get cancelled anyways.
