Really? I've been hearing good things:
"It's clear that Huawei has come a really long way in the build quality department, as the Ascend D Quad feels very good in the hand and like something at the high end of any other Android smartphone vendor."

Having used two of their handsets I can confirm that they're excellent actually. Easily stand up to - and exceed - HTC and Samsung's offerings when comparing similarly priced models.
Their Android one's seem to be pretty well thought of - very good performance for the price. Although I've not owned one myself.
On the other hand I have had a pair of their mobile broadband products - first one of those USB sticks and then a proper WiFi hotspot - and was pretty happy with both of them
1 2 3 4 5 6 ... I am going to for the girl in Blue. Hands off rest of you!
Anybody who thinks this company wont hesitate to be an arm of the Chinese state and military when 'requested', is being incredibly gullible.
If things turn sour with China at some point in the future, we're giving them an easy back door route into our IT infrastructure.

A acolyte of the "tinfoil hat" religion would have said "when things turn sour with China...". From what I understand the PLA has already been caught doing cyber scouting missions. And in truth saying that the Chinese are as dependent on the western democracies as they are of it, isn't really much comfort.
But wasn't there also the strong suspicion that US IT infrastructure manufacturers were putting in back doors into their products for the NSA, CIA or FBI? To quote John Brunner ... "A whole new reason for paranoia".
Then again, I just finished the novel "Pirate" (Ted Bell) last week - and that has the Chinese doing insidious things to gain world domination, so perhaps I'm not exactly unbiased at the moment.
