Shame, I wonder what large chain will go next.
went to my lcoal one yesterday - they are still selling things for more than amazon!
Picked up a display Panasonic NN-CF778SBPQ for £120, well pleased.
I still have 2p on a giftcard... oh well.
They surely can't survive, not enough people buy physical format music anymore and those who do surely just get it online? In fact everything they stock is cheaper online, or there are better selection in other shops... they need to drastically rethink the business plan if they are going to survive.
I still buy physical media, and only physical media, and will not buy that kind of thing online if I can possibly help it. And so far, I have been able to help it. All my music, films, etc, are on disc, bought on person. Every last one.
Sadly, I'm one of the few remaining dinosaurs, I guess. Well, actually I'm not. There are quite a few of us. Just probably not enough.

I'm with you on this one mate. For anyone that appreciates music, the crap from Itunes/Amazon music etc. will never match up to uncompressed CDs. I'm not knocking digital music though as I copy every one of my CDs straight onto the PC and play through Itunes, but in an uncompressed format.
Netflix and the like will also never replace Blu-Ray either, at least not until we all have fibre optic broadband... there just isn't enough bandwidth to transfer 1080p video AND 5/7.1 audio.
I always liked comet, even thou they were a bit on the expensive side of things
Greetings from a fellow dinosaur. The only MP3s I own were ripped from my own physical media as I grew too lazy to swap discs and wanted to use playlists. I do stream movies/series (Netflix/iPlayer etc.) but for puchases I always go for the hard copy. Unfortunately, this slow accumulation of discs is on the verge of needing a clearout or a bigger house. :-s
I have been told by someone in the know that HMV is 90% certain to go as it appears the banks won't like what news they are told over the Christmas period. Next year I believe is going to see a huge seismic shift with loads of High Street stores going. Everyone I know in the retail trade has said that Christmas isn't going to be good enough to save them from a rubbish year, and even my mate at Tesco's has said he expects them to start closing stores as people are just not spending the money...
Old puter - still good enuff till I save some pennies!
I decided to visit my local store after the HUGE letters on the Comet website abvertising HUGE discounts instore. My anticipation was somewhat dampened when I pulled up to the store and noticed a sign in the window saying "up to 30% off". Hardly a HUGE discount but I thought 30% off a notebook or Tv might bring their prices lower than Amazon. Sadly upon entering the store the only item I could find with a 30% reduction was a desktop fan, with a r.r.p of £15.95. The desirable items were discounted by 5%, the odd Tv 10% and were still way more expensive than Currys let alone Amazon. I doubt people would feel obliged to part with their hard eanred cash having been suckered there under false pretences. Its a shame that even as they were going under they didnt see the light and actual beat competitor prices, even if it was simply to shift what will be redundant stock.
