AFAIK my o2x has gorilla glass. It's been not particularly carefully treated for 18 months now, and on a reasonable inspection ... ooh, it appears to have one small scratch that I've only just noticed. tbh fingerprints are a much bigger problem than scratches on a modern smartphone...!Does any reader use a device with a Gorilla Glass screen without a screen protector?
i have 3 devices with gorilla glass none with protection, lumia 920, nexus 7, ASUS TF700
I agree with the above but there isn't much said on the brittleness except the magical 50% figure.
How often do you gently press huge amounts of force? Never, you will drop the phone which will suddenly put a huge amount of force onto a tiny area which shatters the screen. Gorilla Glass 2 is no imprevious to this after seeing how shattered a Galaxy SIII can get by just having a little fall.

The main problem with it is that the increased 'toughness' or whatever is negated when they also choose to make the glass thinner every time.. It's like the dilemma with electronic components. Do we make them more powerful, or more energy efficient?
I can never take Corning seriously when they say its X times tougher, yes their Gorrilla Glass is pretty good at preventing scratches (apart from sand and stuff...that will always be a problem!) however they bang on how tough it is yet all the 'tests' I have ever seen them show they always apply a gradual increase in pressure, that will never happen in the real world and what would be a true representation would be to use their machines to punch the glass at whatever pressure they say it can withstand.
That is all they need to solve, its obviously a key flaw with glass and I would be surprised if they could prevent cracking and bring it to a similar rate as plastics but I would be really impressed if they could.

Galaxy S 3 here with no screen protector - don't see the point to be honest of screen protector these days

No screen protector either on my iPod Touch 4G and Galaxy S3. I had an invisibleSHIELD on my original iPhone and while it did good preventing scratches, it wasn't "invisible", and eventually broke tore apart over the year (if that's what they use on helicopter blades, I have to ask if it is not re-applied every couple of years or used in a MUCH thicker version). But the worst part is the texture which I really dislike.
I think we should go back to sending messages via pigeon. Why? Because it can be done.
my galaxy S2 has GG1, has a small scratch i probably picked up on a trip to the coast.
my note 10.1 has GG2, my 3 year old spends most time with it and it is still scratch free.
neither has a protector as they always peel and end up with dust under them.

I've always used a screen protector in the past but the screen on my 920 is so nice I'd hate to ruin it with a piece of plastic.
It seems to be holding up alright for now.

Isn't the point its tougher than traditional glass and scratch resistant, not scratch proof. Its not invincible to a certain drop but its going to be less prone to damage.
My SII has no protection on it's screen.
Might be why I've scratched it >.<
my S1 had a screen protector - didn't help when a trolley bashed into it and shattered the screen
my S3 doesn't - but I am using the Samsung fold over case though (which is awesome btw)
No protecor, no case and my screen's fine 8 months down the line on my HTC One X
