Looks like someone knocked the box up in 5 seconds flat with a craft knife

There are custom IEM that costs more. If Sennheiser really managed to create something that is cheaper, sounds better, without a custom mould there is definitely a niche who would be interested in it. That said, I am not one of them. For the same price, I tend to prefer the sound of full size headphones. The environment I use IEM (commuting), and the source I use in such scenario, doesn't really lend for this grade of equipment (assuming it lives up to it's cost).
They would have to be indestructible for that price... I go through headphones faster than rolls of toilet paper!
Something always seems to break from accidentally stepping on them, or the cable fraying etc
I have over-ear Sennheiser's and they are the best headphones I've ever owned
Current specs:
CPU: Intel i5 3570k Overclocked @ 4.6Ghz GPU: MSI Twin Frozr 7850 @ 1000Mhz Cooler: Arctic Cooling Freezer 13 RAM: 16Gb Corsair Vengeance 1600Mhz
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA Z77X-D3H
$999 for earbud headphones. Yeah...
I wonder if they use special directional, magnetically-harmonised, unobtanium alloy cables? As heysham said, durability would be a problem, and if they become well-known, would it really be wise to be walking the streets wearing something worth more than most people spend on special-occasion jewellery?
I wonder how much they cost to make
There are triple driver custom IEMs on the market at around half that price. The audible difference between the custom IEMs and these Senns will be next to 0
For that price I'd have some custom moulded jobs..
remove.. comment has been previously mentioned
I have listened to some of the highend in-ear Shure headphones which managed to cram triple drivers into each one,I think they are were the SE530 IIRC, and they sounded fantastic. Those were around £300 which still made them cheaper than the IE700. However,I still thought the Shure headphone were quite expensive for in-ear jobbies.
IEMs can be quite impressive, no doubt, but I'm definitely a circumaural person and for that amount of money, I could already get flagship-level cans (not top cans, though). However, it should be noted that the headphones' price doesn't account for the gear on the rest of the sound chain.
Haven't watched the video yet, does the groinal attachment come in a separate box?
To be honest, I haven't come across many horror stories when in comes to the durability of IEMs costing in the 3 digits. It might just be because I am just more careful with them, but I have broken my share of cheaper IEMs / earclips etc. yet my Westone UM2 (now mid-end, but the next best thing to custom IEM when I bought them in 2005, before the release of the Shure E500) still works fine after all those years. Besides, as implied in your post, cable is the real weak link in portable ear/headphones, but they are replaceable (just not worth it on cheaper ones).
As to your second point, some people walk with music instrument, laptop, camera/lens that costs 2x or more those IEMs. They also cost about the same as most flagship smartphones, and those are both more common and easier to flog.
Saying that though, I *personally* wouldn't go for them (with my money - if someone told me they *want* me to have it, I'll be happy to oblige ).

Some good points, but I was mostly taking the p*** about the cables. Decent gauge cables obviously matter, but some of the audiophool pseudo-science is worth little more than a few giggles.
Audio is, unfortunately, a market where the line between decent high-end and snake oil is very blurred. I mean I like some decent audio kit myself and can tell the difference in a blind test to a point, but you wouldn't catch me buying into some of the nonsense which seems worryingly popular in the market.
Still, probably nowhere near as popular as Beatz which everyone seems to have despite being very mediocre/overpriced.
