On Three at the moment and very happy. Due an upgrade this year so I'll definitely be getting an LTE device with them.

I was prepared to pay about £5 premium for an equivalent tariff for LTE, so this is a big win for me.

Looks like EE will be crapping their pants.. as well as the other networks. Three continue to strive to be the only real option for mobile data users.

Wholly agree, and I've got to wonder whether Three's action will put pressure on O2 and Voda to be a bit more sensible/reasonable with their 4G. Especially as it would leave EE looking like "Everything Extortionate"

Not that I'm particularly concerned since the areas I'd be using it in don't have 4G coverage anyway, but perhaps by the time it's rolled out to those areas the prices will also be "affordable" rather than "oh my god you want HOW much?" level they are at the moment.

Still wouldn't persuade me to switch back to Three (with their lousy coverage and brain dead support), but I can look wistfully across the fence.

Career status: still enjoying my new career in DevOps, but it's keeping me busy...

Some of the crappy coverage is down to the spectrum they were allocated, and LTE will help that! Support - yup, and if you think they are bad try Talk Talk!

Glad I opted for the 4G version of the Note 2 (at decent premium) then! Even though signal will be nonexistent most places for me.

I think you'll upgrade before LTE becomes that much better than 3g. I get 16mb on my Note 2 in good areas, but mostly 8mb down stream - prefectly fast enough for everything , including TV and HD youtube

Re: News - Three will upgrade customers to 4G LTE for free

This would be interesting if Three's 'Unlimited' data plan were truly unlimited. The reality is that it's not - it's subject to the same fair usage policy that most other providers set, which will probably mean that the fun is over before it's even started on a 4G connection.

It's also worth pointing out that Three are dreadful. My mum lost all phone signal for over 2 weeks before Three did anything about it (apparently a mast problem), then didn't even offer any compensation. When I tried Three, it took me over 35 minutes on the phone to cancel my contract. In the end, I had to demand that my contract be cancelled else I would hang up the phone and cancel the Direct Debit myself. Never again - not for all the 4G in the world.

Come on EE!! The competition is just around the corner and you are still offering over inflated prices with USELESS amounts of data! Time to change your tariffs yet again - and quick! Customers demand more or unlimited data these days. 500mb on 4G is a complete joke.

    EE = Everything Extortionate (funny)

The devil will be3 in the detail. Users might be upgraded to the new network, but that doesn't mean that the download limits will be the same.

    Still, time will tell.

Re: News - Three will upgrade customers to 4G LTE for free

Shame it's Three. Was with them for years until I got zero coverage at a place I moved to.

Indian call centre people just said "there's coverage, **** off".

So I left them for a company with coverage.

They wouldn't stop calling me. I had requested a PAC code to transfer my number, and they renewed my contract against my instructions, stopping the number transfer. Their Indian call centre people were horrible, clearly they were working to meet sales targets and were doing whatever they could to meet them.

Horrendous experience, will not use them ever again.

I love the way you can now get mobile internet speeds faster than my home broadband...
