Well what were they expecting with their rather pathetic 4G tariffs. My Orange contract is up in 4 months time. Will probably move to virgin as what they are offering is rather nice on the data side for existing virginmedia customers.
Good, I'm glad it's poor. This...
is pathetic and I like to think that the poor results are because people are wise to the fact this is a ridiculous.start at a high £31 per month with a paltry 500MB download allowance
Exactly, they charge you extra money just for the priviledge of burning through a smaller allowance at super high speeds. When 3 are going to offer LTE for no additional cost, to existing 3G users, i cant see why anyone would look towards EE (which so far has been hands down the worst provider i have ever used). The battle for the best value service is yet to come so no need to rush!
500Mb on 4G is almost completely pointless. Its like selling a 200Mph car that only has a fuel tank capable of doing 5 miles. I use up 500Mb on 3g easily. Wake me up when I can get 4g with enough data allowance to steam videos on the move...
It does make you wonder if ee were using this period as a gullibility test bed.

Pretty much what has already been said, how did they really expect loads of people to jump ship considering terrible price/performance for a product which has very limited coverage ATM anyway? I pay 7.50/month and get 500MB data, not including LTE obviously, but I still get decent speed for mobile use, a recent speed test got about 7.5Mbps down, 1Mbps up. I did get a phone (Galaxy Ace) 'free' on that contract, but even if I include the cost of my Nexus 4, it still only adds up to roughly £20/month.
EE threw away their advantage, and the other providers must be feeling a bit smug now.
hopefully the other providers will learn and offer us good data allowance for affordable prices.
I still can't get over just how shameless these figures are.
"Hey I'm Clive Porkchops!, with our super fast network you can stream films* as you commute home! For only 30 quid a month, wow!!!"
*onaverage0.5filmspermonth
Terrible, hope EE die tbh as their prices are pitiful. Its clear that EE dont understand the point of 4G/LTE, it would make more sense to push it at a low price but with a low data limit that way you pay alot for when you go over however EE are doing extremely high prices with useless data .
I currently pay £17 for my phone with data on orange (contract), since upgrading to a nexus 4 I have been looking for a good sim only contract when it ends in may however I am struggling . I get 40% off at EE/Orange and i can only get 1.5GB data for £8... absolutely pathetic I dont need many minutes I have a land line and unlimited texts is standard with contracts now. The worst part is currently EE is TERRIBLE, I go into the city center and well I get pings over 500 and data speeds of 20 - 60KB/s, that is with HSDPA+ max signal . I cannot stand EE network anymore and the fact they dont seem to support DC - HSDPA in Plymouth (or atleast the network cant handle the strain...) I really am looking at Three since they support DC-HSDPA which is already similar speeds to EE LTE and my N4 doesnt support the band EE use, think Three will be using that band in the future though .
Three will cost me ~ £11 for unlimited data and tethering... bargain. Will be trialing three for a month when this contract ends cant wait .
I agree im with EE (used to be orange) and there has been no improvement like promised since the move. Also I find more problems than before with the network going down or being over run. My contract ends in a couple of months and they were trying to get me paying nearly double what I do in the shop the other day for a upgrade to a worse plan :/ Ill definitely be moving from them. Their data allowance is a joke on every plan then they charge you ridiculous amounts when you o slightly over. 10mb cost me about £20 the other month
I'm going to agree with most of what you're saying here - especially that Three ... as usual ... are the only one of the carriers that actually seems to "get" what data networks are about.
Personally, I've seldom been sitting thinking "OMG, 3G is far too slow" - especially with the widespread availability of free WiFi out and about. No, what I want from 4G is only better coverage than this currently the case with 3G.
Oh, and while I'll agree that T-Mob's teleservice folks are a waste of space, so far I'm getting better service than I did with Three, certainly getting better coverage and speeds.
Then again 500MB would probably suit my current 3G usage, but to offer 500MB for a "high speed" service is a piece of nonsense - needs to be at least 10x that. And for the prices EE want to charge then I'd expect a VM-style "no limits" deal.
Customer service has been about on a par so far with 3 possibly actually providing better service but T mobile proving it in English (at least in my experience, maybe i was lucky?). As for network service, Its been mixed for me. At first with T-Mobile it was ok. Hit and miss as to whether i got better reception than i did with 3, some areas i did and others i didn't but in the most part (given 3 headquarters is in maidenhead) 3 edged it out for victory. When it merged with orange and everything went EE, at first it was utterly terrible and i was dropping out all the bloody time. It was more 'barely anything anywhere' than 'everything everywhere'. Maybe EE is just really bad in Manchester but since i have come back down to the office, It seems to have settled down a bit now. Online services are much much better with 3 though, no confusion there.
No it's like a car that *can* sustain 200mph if you put pedal to the metal but would force everyone else off the road and go only 5 miles leaving you in the middle of nowhere. But if you use it sensibly will go a longer distance and share the road nicely with everyone else as well.
Just because the theoretical bandwidth allows streaming HD video to your phone doesn't mean you have to or should do it...
