    It's a shame that, at the outset, Corsair is not selling the VA as a barebones unit, where the user is able to add their own hard drive.
    Indeed, I would like to have something like this that I can upgrade in the future.

    Bit expensive for me but perhaps the next generation will lower the price or bring in the barebones option.

    would be nice if it had a 2tb HDD and didn't cost a fortune. having a built in 3g dongle/mifi would have been pretty good too for those who have tables and no 3g. give it time and hopefully some cheap chinese clones will do all that

    Do any of these kind of devices just kick out CIF shares rather than having to download and install proprietary apps?

    According to the faqs this Voyager Air does:
    Is the app required to use my Voyager Air with Android devices and Apple iOS devices?
    No, the app is not required. You can use a standard SAMBA-based file browser utility (like “FileBrowser” for iOS or “ES File Explorer” for Android) to navigate your Voyager Air once you are connected.
