I'm not sure that's right.

People who watch these things are people like me, that is, people who've filtered out all the "negative" stuff simply because they're rumours. I do agree they need show good stuff (read: non-Kinect games) as it'll be people like me who'll be there on day-1 snapping this and/or PS4 up.

What I'm looking for from the announcement, (and resulting hardware), is simple, merely:

• No requirement for always powered on (power drain, and it's not practical in my setup anyway)
• No requirement for always being online (some people - although not me - have on-demand connections or ones with restricted limits)
• Some degree of backwards compatibility (don't fancy holding onto my "old" Xbox when/if the new one comes along)
• More powerful hardware than the current generation (although that's a certainty surely)

Seriously, that is the "only problem"? Surely there's the small matter of cost. Some of the rumours (sorry Terbinator!) have said that US$500 is the target price, which is just over £300. Others have said that we'll get the usual treatment of US$1 = £1 in which case the "nextbox" is going to be £500, which isn't affordable.

Like Terbinator, I've not put much stock in rumours, and hence will be eager to see what the final box actually IS.

I wouldn't be surprised if Sony actually show the PS4 hardware and maybe even price it to take the wind out of Microsofts sails. I think they will also most likely show even more of games that were native PC like Diablo 3 for example to try and attract the PC only crowd to their platform.

I wonder if Epic will start supporting the Playstation and I wonder if we will see Gabe after the whole Portal 2 thing with PC / PS3 cross network play. Going to be interesting to see how this one unfolds.

you should be, because both the "nextbox" (I love that btw) and ps4 are fully pc hardware based cpu+gpu, this is going to have some major impacts on games and increasing cross-compatibility, so pc gaming is going to be effected by the changes going on, even more than it currently is.

Got to be honest I'm just not interested - I got a 360 early on but been so frustrated when so little works unless you pay for xbox live - Why do I have to pay to use netflix or iplayer when I get them free on every other device I own (and there are free on PS3)? I've no interested in playing online gaming with live (I do that on the PC) so its just not worth it for me. If I do go next gen I'll probably go PS4 but that will also be dependant on it being fee free still. Might even do without getting anything this gen (which would be first time since the SNES!).
