Typical! I've had my 4 for about a month. Same thing happened when I got my Sensation, 2 weeks later, they announced the XE. I'm never getting a new phone ever again! Saying that though, it probably means an update for the 4...

hehe it's OK, I'm sure your 4 won't suddenly become crap just because a newer phone is coming out.

If the price structure is close to the Nexus4, spec'ed like a GS4 and it offers LTE compatibility then they can take the full deposit now.

Yeah, I know. Maybe I can provide a service. 'Hey, want a new version of a phone to come out? Simply pay me to get the current version!' Sorted.

A 4 + much longer battery life would be enough for me.

Just in time for my next phone! A 5.2" screen is veering dangerously close to oversized though.

Yeah that's honestly my only complaint, but I nearly always have a car charger and/or my Anker battery pack in so it's not really been an issue. The only headline features it lacks is LTE and a 32GB+ option or SD slot, which doesn't bother me in the slightest but could broaden the appeal.

I'm not sure I'd want a 5.2" screen, unless they can keep it in the same sort of size device, the 4 is just right for one hand use while being big enough to have on-screen buttons of a usable size for my fat fingers. The 4 screen is already nearly edge to edge across so another half an inch of screen will probably mean the 5 will be wider and longer :-(

The Nexus experience is great for a no-nonsense phone, does the job and does it well, so pleased to see Google keeping it up!

Re: News - Google runs down stock of Nexus 4 as Nexus 5 launch looms

Nexus phones have a 12 month cycle and come out every year around November/December so I hardly call its launch "looming"

The white Nexus was a limited edition and sold out.

My theory that CPW removed the Nexus 4 being removed is due to poor sales. They were selling it at the same price and plans as the iPhone 5, SGS4, HTC One (£500 phones) when anybody with half a brain and the internet would find out that Google were selling it SIM free, direct for £280.

Beside Android 4.3 is set to be released in the coming month so expect a good couple more months until Android 5.0 launches.

Reports suggest that stocks of the Google LG Nexus 4 smartphone are not being replenished as its successor is about to be announced/launched
I'd like to see a source for this..

I seriously doubt a new Nexus is on the way. I imagine, if anything it will be a minor refresh with LTE. Probably October/November before we see anything new.

Re: News - Google runs down stock of Nexus 4 as Nexus 5 launch looms

So... almost time for the Nexus 5 and google *still* haven't released the wireless orb charger for the Nexus 4 in the UK. This was one of the big reasons I bought it, so as not to bother plugging it in all the time. STFU Google! Where's my orb?! It's been out in the US long enough so no excuses....

BTW agree with previous comment about battery running down too fast.
With top specs at time of release and stock android I kept reading of the N4 as being 'buttery smooth' all the time in initial reviews. I get enough stalling and Plants vs Zombies grinds to a halt whilst it runs smoothly on my other half's ancient iphone 3GS!

Can't complain too much as it was cheap but I'll have fonder memories of the Nexus S once I move on eventually ('twas a joy a hold with subtle lovely curves)...

Don't worry. Nexus 5 will not be RELEASED until November, just like the last two Nexus phones.

Re: News - Google runs down stock of Nexus 4 as Nexus 5 launch looms

"Soon", if you mean 5 months from now.

Yes, there is a clear release date. It will NOT be "released" before November. It will be "announced" in October, but RELEASED in November, just like the last two Nexus. Nexus phones have approximate 12-month release cycle. The last two released in November, the last three in November and December. All four have been released in November, December and January. Is it winter yet in the northern hemisphere? Then no new Nexus phone yet.

As for specs, it's not really a mystery. Here's the 2 ways to know what the Nexus 5 will have... #2 is more important, but read #1 also.

    1) what do the current top tier Androids on the market have? Look at the Galaxy S4, HTC One, Sony Xperia Z and Zperia ZL (especially the C6506). Except for maybe an updated CPU (i.e. Snapdragon 800), the specs will be very similar. Nexus phones have competitive specs with great price, not next gen specs at high price. Except no expandable memory, ever. If you see someone saying the Nexus will have expandable memory, they are clueless. Google has stated the Nexus will never have expandable memory.

Thus we are looking at about 5" (maybe 5.2"), HD 1080p phone with at least 2GB RAM, a 13 megapixel camera and probably Snapdragon 800 "system on a chip". Nexus usually has pentaband HSPA+, but this time throw in multiple LTE bands (like on the Xperia ZL C6506).

    2) What are the specs of the upcoming LG G2? The Nexus 4 was based on the LG Optimus G, and the upcoming Nexus 5 will be based on the updated G -- which is called the G2. LG will "announce" the G2 specs/release date in August.

But the G2 will actually be RELEASED in September (Q3, as promised). That will then give LG the time to ramp up production of the Nexus 5 for November release (Q4 release, just like the last 3 Nexus phones.)

When you see what the G2 has, you will know basically what the Nexus 5 has -- except no expandable memory and throw in pentaband HSPA+ with multiple LTE bands (at least AT&T and T-mobile).

And YES, LG is manufacturing the Nexus 5. They showed Google's Larry Page a prototype in early May when he visited LG headquarters in South Korea. Due to that visit and intense speculation the Nexus would actually be released in May (which was ridiculous), an LG Europe VP tried to deflect attention and his comments were mistranslated that LG was not producing the Nexus 5. LG quickly corrected that statement, while still not admitting they are in fact producing the Nexus 5. But they clearly said the VP's comments were mistranslated. They can't say much more, because it's not up to them to make statements on the Nexus 5, but Google. Last year, it was October before Google even admitted LG was making the Nexus 4 -- which was released in November.

Then I should have said "is Q4 here yet?" 5 more months until the Nexus 5 is released -- November. (and I don't count the October "announcement" where they will show it off).

IF you want to see the specs of the Nexus 5, watch the LG G2 press announcement August 7. The Nexus 5 form factor will be slightly different, but internally the specs will be almost identical -- except no expandable memory, and add pentaband HSPA+ with (probably) multiple LTE bands.

I want to upgrade soon but it looks like I should wait for this. In the past new Nexus phones arrived in the Autumn though.
