Nice upgrade. I especially like the 4GB of RAM. That's starting to look like a real modern PC. Still, my current Nexus 7 is good enough for me. The only things I can currently think of which which will make me buy a new tablet are a larger screen (8") in the same size / weight case, full Windows in a decent size / weight tablet, or Android gaming becoming more serious and the games I like requiring beefier hardware.

4GB is unlikely at this price point and current tablet evolution. 2GB is more likely.

Its resolution is higher than my desktop monitor :/

Not sure I like the large bezel at both ends... I don't know why tablets don't have minimal bezel on 3 sides and then a holdable one at one side with any buttons centrally placed on that side. The screen image can obviously rotate so it'd please left and right handed people, 7" are easy to hold one handed and most of the time this is what you'll do because the other hand is doing the poking...

4GB seems unlikely, I wasn't aware that RAM density had doubled recently, so that leaves 2x chips which would be bad for battery...

Does that mean we'll get 4.3 on the current 7 soon?

Good , can finally buy a nexus 7 then hah, been waiting for this refresh so I can avoid nvidia ... Voting with my wallet for a change.

4gb unlikely but 2gb atleast , hoping for a bigger battery than the previous 7 given its size.

Regarding android 4.3 it should landing this week at the event as everything is leaked now... New Google edition phones have 4.3 ROMs leaked and the nexus 4 got a leak late last week which I tried, colour profile that is much improved along with Bluetooth wireless fixes and better performance and quite a few more but I will wait till sources land and I can use custom kernels

As I already own the current Nexus 7 cant really see the point in upgrading just to get 1920 x 1200 screen. Actually I would assume that is is 1920 x 1080 and the other resolution is a typo. For everyday use what's the real world difference between 1280 x 800 and 1920 x 1200 (or 1080) in the same form factor?

I have the first one and I swear by it. The only thing it's missing is flash but loved it since the day I got it.

Ram is stupid cheap, and they usually just solder on classic laptop memory chips. You can get 8gb memory sticks for laptops - which is 1gb per sdram chip (x8). So you can get 4gb on a SoC PCB by soldering either 2 2gb sdram chips or 4 1gb ones. Most GPUs have 8 - 16 small chips in an array for more peak concurrent bandwidth, but that requires more logic circuitry.

You can get a 1gb sdram node for around $8. And when you are Google you can take a lot off that price tag.

Indeed. Although I wonder what does it say about the state of mobile software when you need as much RAM as a laptop to run it.

I think they make it 16x10 so that you can get the navigation buttons on and still have 16x9 left for films.

The nav bar hides itself (on my GNex 16x9) when I play videos full screen e.g. Youtube, mx player etc. So i do find the recent change to 16x10 on all newer Nexus products a bit weird.
