Too much at $380.
Agreed, this needs to be similar price to the ipad mini to gain any headway.
If it was, I would buy one.
It's not up against the iPad Mini, but against the 8" Bay Trail tablets from Dell, Lenovo and others, which are expected to be cheaper.
With an 8.1 inch screen the attraction of running the old desktop apps disappears for me. I'd rather have a 8inch WinRT tablet, which I'd expect to be smaller, lighter and have better battery life.
The new Atom tablets should be mostly battery/weight comparable with an RT tablet. Atom Z series and the ARM based tablet SOCs are broadly even now, not a lot to choose between them, from what I've seen Atom edges it for CPU grunt but some of the ARM based SOCs have better graphics.
I'd much rather have that x86-64 capability so I can run stuff if I want to (e.g. connect to external peripherals at a temporary desk) rather than being limited by ARM and RT. I really don't see a big place in the market for RT now that Atom has achieved parity with the ARM SOCs.
