I've only just in the last six months opened a Steam account, largely due to the Humble Bundles. I've bought more games in that time than I have in the previous 2 years combined but probably spent a heck of a lot less. There's some absolute bargains to be had and it is extremely convenient especially compared to the abortion that is Origin...I say long live Steam, they are driving the resurgence in PC gaming and that can only be a good thing.
Been with steam since Half-Life2 and stopped aquiring games via other means not that long after.
I want a game when I want it.. not if we can just stop this stupid Friday release for X country and Tuesday for Y country balls we are onto a winner !
Also just need to get the Movie industry to understand that Piracy is more about availability then lack of will to pay.
Valve absolutely deserves all the love it gets, the games are cheap, the discounts are amazing, they've created some great games themselves.
I'm pretty sure Humble Bundle and other great bundles have a lot to do with the user growth especially this year.
Steam is my preferred go to service for games. I've had xbox live gold for a year and can honestly say I don't miss it. Psn isn't any better but I do have PSN+ for the free games on my vita. I hate origin with a passion. I've spent more cash through steam than all other services combined (maybe even 100x more). The massive sales and freedom to download on multiple machines far out way any issues with the service.
I didn't realise that Xbox Live is actually older than Steam. I am also surprised that it took this long for Steam to surpass Xbox Live considering how Steam and Gabe are being worshipped by the master race.
Yey for steam love. 10 years I've been on Steam and apart from some teething issues with servers (10 years ago man!) its been a great service and with 65 million people now using it its got a damn good base to try and get into the Living Room next year
30% increase in the last year alone shows how the mixture of Humbles and the MASSIVE publicity of this years Steam Summer Sale has converted more people.
Now if Origin & Uplay would just hurry up and die so I can get those titles back in my Steam Library I'll be a very happy chappy.

I'm new to steam as well (last few months thanks mainly to Humble Bundles). Really like the fact it has older games as well and a huge online community. I think I still prefer having physical media for my games, but I'm slowly getting away from that..
Must admit the interface doesn't make it easy to just quickly browse big lists of games unless you know exactly what you want, or I'm not using it right?
Apart from checking featured, top sellers, specials etc from the main homepage you can supplement the views with other websites like:

Was never into steam, until I started playing dota 2.
I love Steam and I hope there OS puts Windows out the window for game devs Looking forward to getting my hands on their controller - currently using a 360 on my PC which is good but I'm hoping the Steam controller is better and not as difficult to adjust to as many think it will be. Is it just me or would anyone else like an internal PCIe card for the adapter rather than the horrible 360 thing?
GO GO Steam!!
Roll on Steam OS!
