Ok, Why do we need 4K on our phones. I can understand the monitors and stuff, but phones are so tiny it makes no difference. The only time you'd be able to notice it was if you Miracast, or MiniHDMI it onto a 4K TV, even then, not really worth it.
Everyone is just shooting for the marketing point of "Ultra HD" but on such a small screen it literally makes no difference
Phones no need, 1080p on a 5" screen is so high any increase won't be noticed. 4k on a 10" tablet however, would be as sweet as modern phones
It's doesn't need to be about displaying 4K video, but more to do with handling 4K video. I suspect by this time next year there will be a small pile of handsets that will be able to capture 4K video. This will need to be downsized and displayed as well as processed in other ways. I bet you could use some of that graphics horsepower to do some really cool digital zooming, post capture image stabilisation etc.
This is overkill for phones. And with something like this, I hope they match them with big batteries so the battery life won't suffer that much.
OMG... This is trully brute mobile power. But hey Ultra HD is HIT nowdays and when its HIT you have to hit and hit and hit it hard...
