Update: Three has switched on 4G in London and "a few thousand" customers are now able to use it, reports ZDNet.
Three continue to prove that they "get" what smartphone users want - when the heck are the other carriers going to cotton on. Okay, that's maybe some recompense for the poor coverage and awful customer service.
Got to smile though at some of the comments on Engadget about this - the one that amused me most being the person complaining that their Three roaming option was "limited" to 25GB/month.
Also got to wonder what Three's coverage is like in the US...
Anyone know if the did this in Edinburgh, Three's network as been really poor of late and my Nexus 5 (From Google) has had no end of issues with accessing data from it this week. Also I'm showing full bars in places I haven't before in Edinburgh with H against it, also for some reason the settings were showing as 4G as selected as preferred connection.
If 3 can supply an unlimited 4G contract with the Samsung GS6 then i may be jumping ship it seems.
I just moved to three. I have to say its so liberating having unlimited internet and tethering. I find it so stupid when the likes of Vodafone and EE offer 4G but cap you at 4GB a month. It's so easy to blast through that if you are watching HD videos. My phone has a 1080p display so I essentially require the same amount of data when browsing the net as my PC. Having said that Three's speeds in London are a bit... meh. Bring on 4G!!
I also moved to 3 this year. I've had a backup PAYG SIM with them for ages but my monthly contract was always Orange. It's a vast improvement in service and I saved a few quid in the process too.
The unlimited tethering and data is great when there's no WiFi for my tablet.
I also moved to 3 this year and haven't had a single thing to complain about. Speed is very good, coverage is way better than people on other networks make out (Better than Orange for me both at home and work, the only low signal spots are exactly the same on Orange). Now I'm on unlimited data, I couldn't go back to a capped service. Stream podcasts, TV shows and music from my home server all day long. And now I can do that from America. For £15 a month.
TBH their coverage was sketchy in the past. That was years ago though and I used that PAYG SIM as a coverage tester for a while. When I found found that it was same or better coverage everywhere I visited then I made the switch on the monthly.
I don't work for them but this post sounds a bit like an ad.
I don't work for them either but even on here I've made a few gushing recommendations. I was paying Orange more than twice what I pay 3. Orange did seem a little bit faster and the cinema ticket deal was alright when I could be bothered going to the cinema. But the package was an insult compared to 3.
I did do the same thing as you with the PayG sim, but I'd have done that with any network before committing to a contract.
I was with Three for a good while, only switching to T-Mobile in June of last year. I got really tired of going around places you'd expect signal and could get nothing - note I'm not saying "no data", I'm saying that the phone was effectively disconnected - couldn't even make calls with it. And then there's an area near the Forth Road Bridge that always moved my phone to "Emergency Calls Only" setting - no explanation. When I jumped ship to T-Mobile, I checked one or two of those places and sure enough - 3 to 4 bars and at least the phone was usable as a phone!
Brewster101: Three's customer (dis)service is legendary. When I requested a PAC code from them it took 80 minutes of phone calls and I got the code two days later. Monday this week I requested two PAC codes from T-Mobile and got them within ten minutes. That's right - picked up the phone and ten minutes later had the codes in my hand! Three's shops are also very patchy - some of the bigger stores are quite helpful, others seem to be "what the eff do you want" (including my local one).
Only way I'd go back is if coverage expanded - the One Plan with it's lack of limits AND included tethering sounds okay at £15/month SIM only. Note that tethering is only included with the One Plan, or as a paid for option on that Ultimate Plan. My old 1.5GB T-Mobile plan had tethering - my new, much cheaper Virgin Mobile one doesn't.
Yes .. it does! Quick - see if they'll sponsor you!
Hmm, I hadn't realised that. Which was why I was a little confused why Three was a black hole whereas EE/T-Mob could get a signal - I'd assumed it was some snafu with handover from Three's network to the backup Orange/EE one. Nice to find out that the explanation was much more straightforward!
That's what I thought. When I was leaving Orange earlier this year (August) they asked where I was going, told them Three and the guy said that they "used Orange's network anyway". So either they do use Orange for something, or the Orange CS people are clueless.
I know which is more likely
