At last!
KitKat for the Moto G is available, I got the OTA update over the weekend.
I'm now out of contract and on the months notice period. The Moto G looked damned good for the price but there is no SD slot which given a 2 year contract period I would want.
Think I'll pop off and have a nose at the specs for this one.
Of course I'm perfect you just need to lower your expectations.
Well the MotoX was a pretty expensive phone on release. Admittedly now its become a bit more appealing on price as they have slashed a chunk off it, but at £380 off contract i would still put it in lower-upper/higher-middle bracket. The reason the Z1 Compact does it for me is more about the size. When i was getting a new phone, I settled on an Xperia SP because i wanted 720p on a phone with a screen smaller than 4.7" and there wasn't much available really. The MotoX ticked a lot of the boxes at the time but was US only. Now the Z1C is going to be available, it not only ticks all the boxes but has one of the best cameras on the market. For me, where price isnt really an issue, i just dont want an enormous phone, this is the handset i have been waiting for ever since my One X destroyed my faith in HTC.
Just like to point out my SP hasn't been bad, its built really well and Sony have promised 4.4 on it so they have somewhat won me over.
It may be cheaper, i was just going off the FT Article here, although a bit more searching suggests its a legitimate number. I still think that's a good phone for the price if i'm honest.
***Quick nose later*** No, this won't be the phone I'll be getting.
1) Overpriced for the spec
or
2) Underspec-ed for the price
3)No SD slot.
Also..." 'Moto Maker' customization options which helped to make the handset an attractive proposition for stateside buyers won't be available in the UK " which seems to be a bit of a "shoot your own foot" decision.
The Moto G has a much better price/spec balance.
I think I will be going Sim only for a few months and see what happens.

Well if £450 is the actual amount sim free, i guess the £70 probably is worth it considering all of its splash proof ratings etc. I wouldn't actively buy the smartwatch individually, but if its thrown in then ill give it a whirl.... before chucking it in the drawer. I think ill give T-Mobile a call now and see what they say about availability.
Edit: T-Mobile/EE have no date yet. Might get it sim free anyway
Just buy it off-contract and go SIM-only? The Moto G is £130 for the 8GB version and £160 for the 16GB over on Amazon. Over the course of a 2-year contract, even if we take the more expensive 16GB version, you'd only need to save £7 a month to make it worthwhile.
With cloud storage services and the ease of being able to clear data from a phone now (drag-and-drop uninstall is great for getting shot of questionable ad-delivering-and-not-much-else apps), massive amounts of storage are becoming less relevant unless you want to stick 20,000 songs on your phone, along with every app you'll ever use. I keep my phone for music and a little play, and my tablet for movies and bigger apps.

I expected it to be at Nexus 5 prices, not £380. I can't understand why you'd pay more for a Moto X than an N5, especially without the customisation.. soooo confused.
I picked up a Moto X here in the US for a penny and it worked pretty well for my needs until the 4.4 KitKat update went through. Now it's a hassle, loses network signal, apps act kind of wonky, battery life went down (36-48 hours 4.2.2 to 24-36 usually on 4.4) and sounds stupid, but when you tap the phone to call someone, the dialer doesn't display, need to tap a second button on the bottom of your screen just to quick dial someone. I feel I bought it as a phone first, shouldn't have to jump through extra hoops to call someone but just might be me. Kind of wish I knew how to root it and force 4.2.2 back on
