IIRC google drive offers 15gb straight off the bat, so if this is true MS should start at 15 and offer incentives to go beyond that.

Each to his own. I use 0GB, and will increase my usage by 0GB, so MS could offer 1000TB and it wouldn't incentivise me. But, each to his own.

What I do take about about, though, is to make sure that my data doesn't end up stored on some cloud, MS or otherwise, because of some 'default on' setting. I not only don't want cloud storage, I want to be 100% sure it's not, now or in the future, going to end up on it without my explicit signing up .... which isn't going to happen. And I don't trust MS not to try to force that on us, via the backdoor, rather like they tried to leverage mobile hardware via MUI.

Doesn't everyone that runs windows 8 get a OneDrive/Sky Drive account automatically though? Whereas you have to sign up for a Google drive account? So M$ have to account for more users off the bat and the costs that entails?

I suppose it depends who has most users, everyone who has a Google account can have Google drive. Just download it and sign in with your usual user and pass, thats all it takes.

MS used to offer 25gb.

The issue is the google drive offering is a bit weak, I think MS felt that google apps hasn't had any momentum (it's feature set is still as lacking as it was years ago).

Yeah, I signed up to SkyDrive when they were offering 25GB via a small link on the main page....although I've got 24.9GB free still because the tools to upload are a bit pants. Hope this re-brand will see better tools.
