Hopefully, this one will fare better than some of the other designs from a few years ago.
The VRM section looks similar to the one in the ASRock A85X and A88X mini-ITX motherboards and that was meant to be quite a decent design from what I gather(a mate also has two of the A85X based ones and they have been great so far).
Some others have commented MSI are putting more effort into their motherboards so hopefully this is a sign of things to come.
It's funny how they can find the room for a DSUB (VGA) connector, but not for complete analog surround.
This looks pretty good - only lacking another mini-PCIe for mini-PCIe SSDs.
surely if it only has two DIMM slots it only supports 16GB or RAM?
USB video adaptors have always been crap whereas USB soundcards are just as good if not better (reduced EM noise) than built-in, so it's easier to overcome. Not many people have analogue 5.1, they'd probably output to an amp or system using TOSLink or over the HDMI.
How many people have ethernet sockets behind the TV? Sure WiFi can be added by USB but on the list of things most people would find useful it's pretty high up.
With ASRock FM2A88X-ITX being completely sold out i hope this gets released soon
Thinking about it, almost everyone I know has ethernet behind at least their main TV. Even my dad just upgraded from WiFi to HomeplugAV based ethernet, and is much happier for it. That wasn't really where I was coming from though. I have proper dedicated access points with 3 antenna mimo, but then so do all the neighbours and with a house with big thick walls I still get connection drops. So for me WiFi is a "good enough" connection for phones and tablets.
Executive summary: WiFi is great for people who like the watch the word "Buffering"
Four sata ports are not enough, needs six.
Do away with the d-sub and PS/2 ports, they need to die.
Supporting 32 GB memory on two slots is a waste of time. If you can find 16GB sticks they are way to expensive. It would not take to much engineering to squeeze four memory slots onto an ITX board.
With no d-sub or PS/2 it would be possible to include more usb ports on the back panel.
