Has the makings of being a game-changer, but needs a lot of work from what I can see. Hopefully having it on Github will encourage contributions and get it moving in the right direction.

Certainly might offer a new lease of life to older dx9 games.

Increases the number of games that'll run on SteamOS, will be interested to see how many devs convert their games.

The grammar in the second to last paragraph was stunning.

Also thanks to Valve's efforts, and likely a bit of badgering by the Star Citizen developer team and other CryEngine customers, Crytek has announced official Linux support. Bit odd that Hexus hasn't reported this.

Re: News - Valve releases 'ToGL' Direct3D to OpenGL translation software

It's a neat PR trick, it's sort of a deceptive thing... they're releasing part of the overlay code, and what they've released cannot be compiled as is.

The makers of Wine have had a superior overlay for quite a while now, and the entire code is essentially public domain, and usable as is.

The Gabester isn't doing this out of the goodness of his heart - he's trying to drum up some support for the whole Linux thing by making it look like there's mainstream support. This isn't the first time around - Loki did the same thing 14-16 years ago, with some serious AAA titles for the time, and it still did nothing. It's going to take a lot more than what's on tap now for this to go anywhere.
