On my desktop? In an ideal world, yes. But I won't be spending big money to replace my 500GB storage drive that stores temporarily downloaded videos, music and the like any time soon. I simply don't need the speed. Everything else is already on a 256GB SSD, and I don't really need one larger than that for Windows, software and games.

As for my 24TB server? No, don't think so.

I like the sound of these "flash-bashed drives"

I have a 120GB EVO for the OS and a few programs, and it is indeed fantastic.

I would ideally love [to afford] a secondary 2GB SSD for all my games (I keep them all installed, so I can just hop on and play whenever I feel like it), but would still keep one or two HDDs (probably 3-6GB range) for all my media, as those play fast enough from a mechanical drive.

You're not going to get very far with only a few GBs in 2014 Your graphics card probably has more memory

6gb drive , perfect for my old dos computer

I been looking at the 1TB Msata drive , it comes into price range now for only € 434,95 euro's and found it on amazon for £392 .. amazon isn't the cheapest tho.
The normal 1tb SSD's aren't far off with prices.
Just waiting for another year till the price drops down some more.

Re: Tech explained - Tech Explained - The benefits of solid state drives

I switched to an SSD a few years ago, with a 250 GB to replace my boot drive. Wow what a difference. Boot time of almost 4 minutes reduced down to under 30 seconds. That time has creeped up over the past year with boot bloat, but a simple wipe/reset of the operating system would restore that down to super fast.

It's worth looking out for Amazon Black Friday deals - last year I got a 1TB Samsung 850 Evo drive for £185.
