Given the reference temps and heat generated for 1 gpu the water cooler will have to do a big job.
Just strapped a Corsair H55 to my R9 290x and that keeps it to 50 for just one GPU, 2 will be closer to 85-95 I would imagine.
Considering the cores are running at 1GHz+ this is going to have to shift some serious power... I do not expect it to be a quiet card. My guess would be that it'll be more like the GTX590/6990 where custom loop water was almost required. (Then again, I expect the Titan-Z is gonna make quite a racket too with ~400W in a two slot package).
My coarse understanding of PCIE power is that a 6 pin delivers 75W while an 8 pin can do 150 and 75 can be drawn from the slot.
With two 8 pins and the bus, that is only 375W and not the full 500W the chart shows which is also less than double the 290s.
Have I fundamentally misunderstood PCIE power? Something similar happened with the 7990 but that was put down to picking the best samples.
Yep, 375W is the (theoretical/recommended) limit from 2*8-pins and the connector itself. They've probably cherry-picked samples that can run the desired clocked speed at ~20% (just a guess on the numbers) lower voltage than the stock 290X which will drastically reduce power consumption and heat production (most losses in GPUs are Ohmic resulting in a power increase proportional to the square of the voltage).
Why the table says 500W I don't know. You can get away with drawing a little more from 8-pins (on a good PSU you could probably suck 200W from each 8-pin - provided the rest of the PSU wasn't overloaded) as there's significant overhead on the cabling - well I've never felt a PCIe power cable noticeably above ambient.

Actually, these hybrid coolers are an interesting idea. Read one of the Asus Poseidon 780 (or was it 780Ti) reviews somewhere. But the review didn't go into too much details about what difference the air part did. As in running the air fan until just below where it can be heard vs what just the AiO watercooler can do on its own. I imagine some Asus Poseidon owners have done that and posted on some forum but I wasn't interested enough to hunt those out.
Poseidon is a very different hybrid. The Poseidon's design is such that you can run air or water alone, or both because of the way the two interplay. From what I gather, the system used on this new card is more akin to what NZXT did with the Kraken G10. You have a pump/block system sitting on the GPU so the fan on the card does not actually do much to cool the GPUs (because it is occluded by the pump/block system sitting on it) but rather the memory, VRMs and other circuitry.

I am more worried about reading different reviews online about the next years , let me explain
Right now this is a top card , however as i noticed the card throttles down at 75C.
So this leaves no space for future overclocking unless you gonna cut tubes and replace the radiator or replace the whole cooling system together.
Right now there are benchmarks that already put the card to 71C on stockspeed, wich is darn close to 75C.
Go figure the next-gen games that come up with the new cards will push this limit even further.
So my worries is , when i buy a next-gen game in 2 years , the card will reach it's limit and will throttle down at the low 75C instead the usely 90-95C , meaning the game will become unplayable unless you find a way to cool it better.
So basicaly the one not good thing on this card or 2 actualy are the cooling and the limit they set on temperature before the card shuts down.
