I don't think many will find this surprising however its great that it's now public record. Hopefully with all this worldwide spying on the general public, the public will actually start to stand up for themselves.
Not surprising at all
My problem - and I'm not getting at you - is that it's damned difficult to "stand up" against this kind of shenanigans. I'm mean what are the options:
Move to another provider - well are there any out there who AREN'T doing this?
Lobby your MP - who will probably come back with the "we need to do this to combat terrorism/paedophiles/organised-crime*" (* delete as applicable - based on what's currently front page on the tabloids);
Stop using electronic communications - does nothing to prevent "them" tracking you via CCTV;
Use encrypted comms - which automatically marks you as a "person of interest".
and so on.
Strangely enough it's not governments doing this that worries me so much, (apart from the weird ones like N Korean, Iran, Sudan, etc), as the thought that large corporations might be doing it too. With government's at least there's a veneer of accountability.
