Read: Everyone was happy to let Microsoft tackle making a very high-end tablet with razor thin margins (Surface Pro) or low-end that nobody really wanted (Surface RT), but raised a fit when it looked like MS were going to muscle into the high-margin small-Win8-tablet market. Both the fierce competition in this tablet market segment and poor response from "brand vendor clients," are blamed for the decision.
Can't help feeling that even if this wasn't a success, it would have helped brand recognition and future product awareness. Given MS's attempts to grow their tablet market position, those things are of paramount importance. Leaving the small-tablet market to other players effectively weakens MS's position. To coin an awful phrase, you've gotta be in it to win it!
With the launch of a 6" Nokia "phablet", the idea of a 7" tablet running a different OS seems pointless. With Office, RT's main selling point, already available on Windows Phone, what would it have apart from perhaps a useful stylus. Better to roll its best features into the phone range.
Ultimately Windows RT was a mistake. After forcing the interface on the desktop products to handle tablets, they needed to go whole hog and kept the fragmentation down.
Never did understand why they didn't develop WinPhone to work on larger screens for the rare midrange tablet options either.

This is bunny and friends. He is fed up waiting for everyone to help him out, and decided to help himself instead!
A 7-9 inch (3:2 ratio) with ideally atom specifically designed for note taking with a stylus would have been a great product in my opinion... I don't want a 6inch phone...
As to being RT, the problem wasn't really RT, it was the way that RT was based off windows desktop rather than being based off windows mobile.... I think if they'd have made it the other way round we wouldn't have had the issue with it.
I wanted one of these
I've heard talk that there is a fight going on between the future of Windows Phone and the Windows RT, I wonder if this is related to that.
MS have acknowledged they failed to provide any convergence between Windows Store on Windows and on Windows Phone, they've started doing that now, it's only a matter of time before they are merged completely.

A good call I think, we have some surface tablet within the company but the consultants use them over laptops due to the fact the run proper windows/office applications at speed. I dont see anyone buying a lite/mini version, 7" tabeleta are good for entertainment and web browsing at home, they are not productive business tools which is where MS need to keep their focus
