Interesting indeed. I've noticed Lisa Su seems to have been appearing in a lot of conferences etc lately, but not so much for Read, so maybe it's been in the works for a while?
Su IIRC has a technical background, although Read accomplished what he set out to do in returning the company to profitability.

In this case, my natural skepticism is dampened by a nugget I picked up at CES back in January. It wasn't anything I could report, but a well-placed industry source suggested to me that Dr. Su would very likely replace Read as AMD's CEO "within the next six months." Of course, since this is AMD, the schedule was optimistic, but that prediction proved accurate—and it lends credibility to the notion that this move was in the works for a while.
I was very impressed with Lisa Su when I saw her giving a presentation earlier in the year. Good luck to her, she seems like a good choice.
This could be interesting - both Nvidia and AMD are now headed by CEOs with intensive technological understanding. I don't mean to talk Read down, and it seems that he's a brilliant businessman who understood his market very well and did great things for Lenovo, IBM and AMD, but it seems Dr. Su and Jen-Hsun Huang have deep technical mastery in their field.
Ok I'll admit it this time, Lisa Su is *slightly* more qualified than I am *cough*.
Nice to see engineers at the top of corporations like AMD & Nvidia. Wonder if more scientific nous in politicians might improve overall governance? There don't seem to be many such in our political institutions atm

Good for AMD at this point.
