Wonderful but how about getting even more resources into improving the speed for those of us in the UK still struggling to get a decent Broadband service!
Well, better infrastructure is always a good thing. Let's hope this technology is used cost effectively and we don't end up having to choose between feeding ourselves or slightly faster broadband...

100 very poor quality pirated cams. Not HD movies. 3Tbps = 384 GB/s....100 would mean 3.8GB each, or less then a single layer DVD.
Although who comes up with these analogies? It's like saying something is "so many lengths of string".....Pick something that is set in stone, like a 50GB BluRay disk or a dual-layer DVD......or how about just using Megabytes per second?
The feat is impressive but I do wonder how long before they actually implement it.......and TBH, some ISPs need this as many networks are starting to bottleneck and connections further upstream need bulking-up.

I am curious as to why BT partnered with a mobile manufacturer and a Chinese one who has a low market in the UK for a test like this.
If it was Verizon or Cable&Wireless, I would have understood
I *think* things are improving, but the UK has issues due to the cost of upgrading some infrastructure. The companies involved have to show a profit, and if it's not going to be cost effective then they simply won't do it!!!

It does say transmitting which could imply streaming. 3.8GB x264 encoded films at 720p are clear enough and don't necessarily have to be cam rips. I have almost 4TB of 720p films and hardly any of them are over 4GB.
iTunes rips, while not bluray quality are still better than DVD by a long shot and they tend to be around 4GB as well.
I do agree with the stupid analogies though. Companies need to start using a standard instead of "100 HD films". What's the length, the bitrate, the resolution, etc... They should have just said 50 dual layer dvds as that would have been more accurate.
Huawei don't just make mobiles they make networking kit, big infrastructure style networking kit, and have supplied this to BT for nearly 10 years now, so they are a pretty sensible company to partner with on a project like this. The British government doesn't take the same view of Chinese telecoms companies as the USA, and I don't know enough about it to make a judgement on whether their networking kit is 'compromised' or not.

Great, so BT has 3Tbps technology.. but they still can't even give me 1 single mbps upload on my connection. 888kbps in 2014. Pathetic.

As others have said already, if they're being bottlenecked at busy parts of their existing connection, then adding more people at the ends is just going to make it worse for their existing high-speed customers. The existing high-speed customers are more likely to switch to Virgin or Sky than the rural ones, so BT can't do much to annoy them. They're still rolling out fibre to rural customers, though, and so are their competition. Your speed will increase eventually.
