So they fight against being charged to stream content at a premium by cable companies but are happy to do the same to their own customers.
What a shocker.....
to be fair this is slightly different. We're already paying for the 'pipes' that they're sending the data to us on, they shouldn't have to pay for it again because the ISP is cheapskate or wants to double dip.
4K is clearly going to need more resources to send the data so I don't see an issue with the premium, it's not like it's going to be easily available for everyone (min 25meg connection.... meaning fibre/cable only) so better to charge those that actually want it.
^-this, and is an extra three bucks a month really unjustifiable given the supposed increase in quality?
No, if I'm going to slag off Netflix then it's this ... where on earth do they hide the UK pricing details? A simple Google for the obvious doesn't give any info from the Netflix site itself, but there's plenty from TechRadar, the Guardian, etc.
I was interested the other day in perhaps cutting my monies to Virgin and use the saving to get a Netflix sub. With the long winter's nights heading our way, I thought some extra content might be useful (e.g. really want to see Caddyshack2 again for some reason).
Meh. Their 1080p looks like washed out poor overcompressed 480p. Maybe the 4k service will look like slightly washed out 1080p?
Quite true, but then again I've got the top broadband package from VM (they keep upgrading it!) and I'd be content with one 20% as large. And yes, I've been Tivo'd too - trouble is that the Netflix app needs a valid NF account and Virgin stopped doing that nice trial deal. Maybe they (VM) need to think about offering NF as a "value add" service the same way they do Sky Movies et al. (And yes, I know that competes with VM's own on-demand offerings).
I don't mean to sound cold, or cruel, or vicious, but I am so that's the way it comes out.
