Can't say I'm surprised. Or bothered. Personally, I never did see the appeal on a laptop, certainly not for anything I use mine for.

On a tablet, sure. Therefore, on a 2:1, sure. Laptop? Nah. Not for me.

Perhaps people eventually saw through the "Windows 8 doesn't work with a mouse or trackpad" stories? I wouldn't want fingerprints all over my screen anyway.

They failed when they killed off the Netbook market. When your on a limited budget or want something cheap you can carry around it's perfect. Ultrabooks are to expensive to carry around and touch screen means I need a pack of screen wipes just to open windows.

They're a fundamentally stupid idea in the first place so not surprised. Now if we could just get back to matte screens as default, and take Windows 8 blocky-fuglyness away forever, I'd be a happy camper.

I never would of bought a touchscreen laptop.
If I wanted a touchscreen I would buy a tablet and if I want a laptop I would buy a normal laptop.

My collection of Windows mobile devices currently includes a Dell Precision M6600 (no touchscreen), Dell XPS 12 (touchscreen), Dell Latitude 10 tablet (touchscreen) and Lenovo Miix 2 8 tablet (touchscreen).

I really miss a touchscreen on my M6600. Using Windows 8 on tablets, and then being able to switch between flicking the screen or using keyboard / touchpad on the XPS, I miss that flexibility on my larger format laptop.

I do hope that Dell keep build to order options for touchscreens!

Totally agree. My wife's old netbook is dying and I'm not sure what to replace it with. They were ideal road office machines on a budget. My wife did lots of powerpoints/docs on hers. I've seen a few ok replacement machines but nothing for the budget with keyboard - this is probably the closest contender (http://www.ebuyer.com/640810-asus-x200ma-touch-laptop-x200ma-ct099h). Odd that it is touch screen laptop... Wish one of these budget tablet makers would just shove a keyboard on one.

(Note: I don't see a bluetooth keyboard as the answer - It fiddly, needs charging, carrying separately etc - Why not just have one attached. You can then use it on a lap.)

Good riddance, hopefully Microsoft will get the hint also. Windows 8 lasted 30mins on my pc, before I spent 6 hours reinstalling and kicking myself for being stupid in the first place.
