Gutted at no single player campaign. I'm a bit out of date and not into MMO
There is a single player game, you just have to be online to play it, which quite frankly has been enough to put me off purchasing it.
Unfortuantely the responses coming out could be read between the lines as "crap, even a modern PC will struggle to run this, we need a server to keep the simulated universe running properly", so it's unlikely to ever change.

This is bunny and friends. He is fed up waiting for everyone to help him out, and decided to help himself instead!
Get the Oculus Rift on and try to peel your jaw off the floor. Really looking forward to the consumer Rift and the ongoing expansion and improvement of this game - nothing else... just these 2.
Flying by the seat of your pants if some rusty bucket ship trying to scrape some cash together to upgrade is fun, but it's a long burner this one... don't expect to be dazzled by set pieces as this is a long, chilled out and terrifying (when you can lose everything) type of game. Not for anyone who can't take loss on the chin.
The video isn't representative of what's in there (not many trailers are) but the gameplay is solid... and the Oculus rift just makes things much more engaging!
For me it's kind of refreshing to have a true open world game, non of this 'you are the hero that is saving the world' that's been shoved through our throats countless times.
I wish there were a lot more games like that. Hopefully Elite will inspire other game developers to adopt this dynamic openworld mindset for other game types.
How cool would it be to have a fantasy based mmorpg where you are not restrained by a static per-determined game world.
Ye the lack of true singleplayer is quite offputting to me too, especially with how shaky my internet has been lately. It's a nice idea to keep the universe going but I think theres certainly a good portion of people looking for pure singleplayer too, or both depending on particular circumstances.
Still, I'll probably give the game a look at some point since it looks pretty fun either way, just a little disappointed they chose to scrap the offline singleplayer.
Will fire it up next week and cross my fingers. I've had the beta for 2 months and after a week of constant crashes gave up mid Sept. Hoefully the final product won't be as bad - their tech support at beta stage was frankly dire.
I don't have a gaming PC at the minute, but I'm very close to investing in a new one just to play this game! Looks stunning from what I've seen online, and I spent many hours playing Frontier: Elite II on my trusty Amiga 1200.
I backed this on Kickstarter in 2012 with £20 for the game. Does anyone know how I would actually claim it now?
Played a bit last night...and figured out i need faster engines because even at 2000c it takes a long time for some places that seem local enough. The hyper drive frame rates do drop though, where as everywhere else its a smooth 45ish at ultra.currently just doing some small trading and petty missions... had no idea theres a story campaign in this one. Must find that and my darn eagle thats docked somewhere.
As for the online thing, didnt seem to effect anything. The odd player here and there...i think it add immersion, especially after i saw some of the npc's flying...bouncing through a docking bay and bashing some poor players sidewinder.
Login to https://store.elitedangerous.com/cus...account/login/ (well first do a password reset) with the same email address as you kickstarted with. I can see the 'orders' there copied over from the kickstart pledge. There's a download link in the account dashboard that goes to http://hosting.zaonce.net/elite/Client-Installer.exe

How far do you consider 'local'?
Something 37,000 Ls usually takes me about six minutes - Have a ciggie on the way!
I get constant 60fps at all times, it seems.
Do you want me to tell you how, or would you like to figure it out?
For game specs, in the earlier beta I was running an i5-2500 with 16gb ram and 2x 560ti in SLI mode and was getting a playable game at 5760x1080 with most settings down to medium. So a single screen on a relatively modern PC should have no problems with it.
I've now replaced the 560's with a single 980 and turned the detail way up and will run at between 70-120fps all the time. The only glitches I do get are inside the stations when docking, this can really hit the frame rates, they need to add a graphics slider so that detail can be turned down in stations.
