Re: Microsoft to hold MWC press conference on 2nd March

I rushed in to get Windows 8 on my PC when I should have waited. What I'm looking forward to with Windows 10 is better integration between PC, phone and tablet but I'll be patient this time and wait to see feedback before rushing in.

Re: Microsoft to hold MWC press conference on 2nd March

It is no big secret that the bulk of Lumias sold are indeed the lower end models. With this in mind Microsoft is pushing hard to get Windows 10 to work within the 512MB RAM most of these phones have installed. As The Verge reports the best selling Lumia 520, Lumia 630, Lumia 625, and Lumia 530 all have 512MB of RAM.
As a mildly interested observer (don't have a Lumia myself, but my wife does) I'd suggest that being able to do the full W10 "experience" on these low end phones would be a pretty strong selling point. A bigger selling point would be if that W10 upgrade was available on the older devices, like the Lumia 620, a device that's now over two years old. That gives Microsoft a pretty good two-by-four to beat the Android manufacturers, especially Samsung, with.

Ubuntu state minimum requirements as 512MB RAM, (and then disgrace themselves by admitting that Unity actually needs 1GB and prefers 2GB), but the Netbook edition says 384MB.

Remember that this is W10 for phones, so I'm guessing not the overhead of the desktop edition. Now if they're supporting ARM that well then why the heck aren't they going to do a like-for-like for RT?

Come on Microsoft give us a competitor that goes head to head with the likes of the Galaxy Note and the iPhone 6+ ... a 1530 with all the bells and whistles like full HD minimum, 3GB ram, 128GB storage ... not a paltry 1330.

1520 has full HD screen and enough RAM and storage for windows 8.1 and apps. 128GB on board storage is just waste as most people won't use it but everyone will pay for it. 32GB that is expandable is the perfect compromise for 99% of people.

I do though want to see a 1530 that has the same screen (of course bigger) than the 930, that is noticeably nicer.

I keep umming and arring about moving from my Note 2 to the 1520 but kinda want to wait and see if a 1530 comes.

With ram so cheap, it is a wonder why they are allocating so little for the unit.
