Desktop/workstation 8K scalerless monitors. VR. Video walls driven by an SOC. Future 8K UHDTVs (test broadcasts 3 years ago, expected public broadcast tests next year).

    'Enbedded' doesn't mean just 'mobile'.

Just in time for my 120" TV. Now all I need is a bigger living room.

Oh, you won't have to worry about a living room, just get a really sturdy marque. Remember, you had to sell your house to buy one of those TV's!!

Surely this embedded displayport spec is purely for Apple's next 27" iMac (and a new 40"/60" iMac TV)

It's the only device that is (1) embedded, (2) already pushes the limits (5K), and (3) has a manufacturer willing to do such things. All the other AllInOne devices have crappy displays.

Me? I'd just be happy with a 32" 4K monitor at work rather than two 1080p monitors.

I'm ruddy annoyed at this marketing being thrown round, 2k, 4k, 5k, 8k. And I don't want 8k on a mobile device. 720p is perfectly fine and guess what it doesn't rape battery life.

Re: VESA embedded DisplayPort Standard 1.4a heralds 8K laptops

    Imagine a 13" laptop with 8K resolution.
But I could easily imagine 8K on a really large TV.
Maybe then they could start bringing out 3D without glasses, definitely a lot of info capable of being streamed through the cables.
Aghhhh, consumerism and capitalism, always time to upgrade, if only I had the money!
