Hmm going to be a choice between VR or new monitor for many people (*sync, UHD, curved etc) next year... a lot of people aren't going to be able to afford both. My instinct is to try the 'new' VR as it'll be cheaper than a massive screen and more immersive.

So Oculus has "decided to choose" to include an Xbox One controller with the Rift, just a few weeks after Mac+Linux support was "put on hold"
I smell a rat...
Yes does seem a little odd. What if you don't want a xbox controller? For example you could prefer to use the half moon controllers or a steam controller. (Talking of which I wonder if they gearing up to fight steam?). Personally I'm not bothered though as I won't be buying hardware from facebook...
What if you don't want XBone, Half-Moon, headphones or any of the other junk and just want the bloody headset that they've been banging on about for so long?
I'm assuming there won't be a reduced cost package for such a thing.
Hopefully they will have XBOne controllers working wirelessly with Windows by then........

Pretty much this. I already have a gamepad and I sure don't want to replace my proper quality audio gear for that integrated on-ear stuff.
Bring on a core package with headset and essential hardware to make it run, nothing else. Sure, go wild and make as many packages you want, as long as the core product is available by itself.
I don't even have a gamepad, though if I were to get one it'd have wires. Can't be doing with all that battery changing and recharging nonsense. It's enough that my Scala headset, both phones and the laptop all need it!!
Is the controller optional or required though? Most demo's I played when I had the rift were mouse and keyboard, though sometimes finding the keys you required was a bit of a task.

Think the Steam HTC Vive is actually looking more exciting than this, judging by recent updates...

Seems a deal has been done as Microsoft are already stating that you will be able to stream XBOne games to the OR.
The caveat? They will not be in 3D......which for me makes it kinda pointless. Not that I expected anything else and am still wondering how Sony expect to pull off full VR with the PS4 hardware.
