A better question would be why Apple and not Google? I'm assuming it's because Apple's got more clout with the banks etc. Of course a cynic would wonder how long before we get the PR fluff about how Apple "invented" contactless payment.
(Justified?) Slagging aside, they've got a point about the fingerprint scanner adding a nice layer of extra security. So thumbs up Apple for that.
Thank the maker for that. I dread being behind some bozo who's waving their large size tablet around the tills in Costa's, Starbucks, etc. Bad enough that you can't go to any attraction these days without seeing some idiot using their iPad or Galaxy Tab instead of a camera or smartphone. You can't use iPads to pay in stores. ... For online payments you can use both iPhone 6 models and the iPad Air 2 or iPad mini 3.
With a £20 limit (because the existing contactless system has no authentication at all) this won't go far.
The iPhone payments should have a higher limit because of the fingerprint authentication, but that requires work to be done by banks and merchants, and that just ain't going to happen.
The article says:
and the original justification for the contactless was for those "frequent" payments where the whole having-to-type-in-a-pin-number seemed a little overblown. The typical examples being getting a skinny latte from Starbucks, a newspaper at Smiths or a Greggs sausage roll.In store payments are limited to £20 or less, the limit is scheduled to lift to £30 in September.
I would be pretty wary of a higher limit - since it's already been proved that the fingerprint authentication can be spoofed. Put it this way ... any bank that allowed more than £90 is not one that I'd be comfortable trusting my money to. Oh, and I'm not getting at Apple's implementation, more that fingerprint tech in general seems to be "okay" but nothing more. The ones that interest me are fingerprint with blood flow tracking and similar "fingerprint+" type schemes.
Is there anybody that has an iPhone 6 and doesn't already have a contactless debit or credit card?

Apparently it's on EVERY contactless terminal, not just "supported shops":

E.g. Even works in Tesco ...
At Mastercard, we implemented this recently.
Had an email couple of weeks ago from the developer , asking us to be guinea pigs.
Glad this is finally getting here, its been a while.
