    So, he fires 7800 people from the phone business and

    ... as if the remaining people (or at least anyone with a hint of talent) won't be polishing their CV ready to jump ship to somewhere where they can feel valued?

    they gained iirc 25,000 people from nokia when they bought them out, common sense says there would at the very least be some duplication of already existing staff not to mention you don't need 7800 people to design half a dozen fairly similar designed phones a year...hell I could do that on my own (background is product design)

    They're just trimming the fat, it's to be expected and anyway the phone division actually makes a small profit for Microsoft. For a company to actually have a small presence that isn't losing money hand over fist is actually a good thing.
