Next to no support, clueless & rude staff + lack of updates, Asus need to sort the aftersales as words getting round. Most Asus owners are now going elsewhere after facing issues that need official and not user to user support.

Creative don't exactly fare much better to be fair, but I know what you mean.

Their Xonar cards are pretty good (i use DX with intent to move to D2X soon), so i wonder is this much different than their current Xonar/Essence range.

Looks like Creative have got some Windows 10 drivers out for the XFi but no mention of Windows 10 support for my Asus Xonar D2X yet. I'm assuming Creatives Windows 10 drivers work ofcourse

Asus make great hardware, but are so slow to back it up with good support / software / firmware / drivers.

This is true of their soundcard and router divisions :/

For those of looking for updated drivers for Asus Xonar cards no longer supported by Asus try here: http://maxedtech.com/asus-xonar-unified-drivers/#Win10 no fully working Windows 10 driver yet. But the modded driver for my xonar D1 solved issues I was having with some more recent games.

My Asus Strix GTX980 caused static whining noise down the microphone channel of my Asus Phoebus soundcard via the PCIE lanes of my Asus R5E motherboard, 3 top of the line products that were never tested properly, this is why I will never give Asus another penny.

They often have a small adapter so the optical is at the back of one of the 3.5mm ports rather than having a dedicated optical port. Same on the xonar DX range. Does restrict you a TINY bit (it's the microphone socket on mine) but as there's usually pins for the front panel microphone...

Re: ASUS launches Strix range of discrete soundcards

Modern sound cards seem hell bent on making you use environment effects and other such nonsense. Bass boost? What on earth happened to basic Bass and Treble controls. This is the reason I'll be stuck with Creatives Titanium HD for some time. It's the only one that gives me the basic controls I want without forcing artificial effects.
I will say to creative's testament. They have modern drivers for cards going back to their original Live! series.

But disabling half the things right? I've not had recent creative cards, but my old Audigy 2 was fantastic, until the drivers for which ever OS stripped out a bunch of functions. A third party driver put them back until it got a slap down from the lawyers.
