Zen processor block diagram devised from AMD software patch

The patch contains enough processor component references to create an outline.

All this seems to show is that a Zen core is basically two Bulldozer cores glued together. Let's hope that's not actually the case.

Are you looking at the same diagram as I am?

Oh nevermind, I'm an idiot and I fail at math again. It's 2x128 on 2x Bulldozers.

Re: Zen processor block diagram devised from AMD software patch

    LOL this is good ^^

Anyway.... I hope that expectations people have for Zen won't collapse to the ground after 1st day (similar to failed FuryX/Nano exercise). Considering how long Zen is in development I have some fears about it. AMD has to deliver this time or they'll disappear into oblivion as a CPU maker. I do sincerely hope Reds will come strong with good stuff. It would be great if - 1st time in 15 years or so - they actually beat team Blue in desktop/PC enthusiast market. Zen doesn't have to be most power efficient chip on the planet. AMD is so far behind Intel on power efficiency that I don't really care. All I care is raw computing power. Even if all I do with this is stick Zen into BOINC/WCG crunching machine. Seriously, I don't want Zen meditations, I want Sledgehammer smash.

If Intel really are deliberately holding things back then AMD will catch up. Forgive my optimism

Don't be stupid. The BD block diagram is very different from Zen block diagram. People like you make me laugh. You seem to think you know better than seasoned engineers and cpu architects such as Jim Keller. Please keep your delusions of grandeur to yourself.

Intel are very threatened by Zen because only last week articles are reporting that intel will now be making 6 and 8 core cpu's. What a coincidence intel have released this little nugget of dung now that Zen block diagram has been released and Zen IPC performance is 40% better than Excavator. Bearing in mind the 5960X still costs $1000, I would like to know how much intel are going to rip off customers for their upcoming 6 and 8 core cpu's?.

The most important question is - when will Zen hit the market?. I am itching for the new AM4 and Zen upgrade, so that I can finally put my trusty FX-9590 and Asus Crosshair V Formula Z to a well earned rest.

Don't be stupid. Intel are only "ripping off" uninformed buyers and extreme enthusiasts. Intel sell 8-core Xeons for $600. Hardly a rip-off given the $350 RRP for a 4-core i7 with fewer features.

Re: Zen processor block diagram devised from AMD software patch

Intel are a business. As much as we would all love the option of a 10 core CPU for £50, they do have to answer to share holders. If their main competition isn't up-to-speed and killing them off would cause the monopolies commission to start throwing their weight around, then there is only one logical way forward.

Whether Intels current iterations (beefing up the iGPU) have been by design or opportunistic based on the situation they found themselves in, is probably anyone's guess....but if AMD have something to compete with soon, Intel will surely go looking for that rabbit....

Wish it had happened 5 years ago though :S

You might disagree with an opinion, but that sort of comment is NOT welcome on HEXUS and is not the way we discuss things. I'll cut you some slack as a new member, but you might wish to re-read the FAQs and moderate your tone accordingly.
