Fantastic news! I wasn't even aware this was something they were developing. The mobile internet on my phone always seems to be terrible just when I need it the most - either not loading the map at all or loading it very slowly, so I can see this coming in useful!
I will say this is one of the reasons I went to windows phone 3 years ago for here navigation (was Nokia maps back then).
I believe here is now available on other platforms and guess it already offers this.
Not sure if its still the case but I have found here is generally better anyway.
that is awesome didnt know about this, i will have a look now
finally
For me old version of offline maps where good enough, if you going to new place and you do not know area very well then it is fine, however with no redirecting the way it is not so great, I've could do that before set the maps at home and follow the map once on the way.
Finally took them long enough.
Now to make phone with microSD support
I'd be far more impressed if Google recognised the "huge problem" that they won't let those of us that don't want the junk they stuff our devices with uninstall it. And for me, that emphatically includes Maps, with or without offline mode.Google recognises that a lack of, or spotty, connectivity is "a huge problem".
