Psh, physically attending VR events was so 2014.
Medical applications
Military (sadly)
General content consumption (HexusVR.net)
Teleconferencing / Remote Working
The p0rn industry is going to lap VR up (figuratively speaking).
BTW. In the unlikely event that I do win this please drawer somebody elses name out of the hat. I already have commitments on that date.

Of course I'm perfect you just need to lower your expectations.
Allow people with disabilities to visit places "digitally" when they wouldn't be able to do so in person.

I used to be a developer and now work as a designer/illustrator/artist and occasionally do 3D work. I think VR opens up a lot of opportunities in combination with emerging web technologies and am excited to see where we can push it.
Escapism in general - With GPUs and Engines progressing as they are, it won't be long before we're all jacked in exploring places we cannot access, or even just re-visiting locations we've been to.
Film - What's more immersive than being inside a film rather than just viewing it?
Aerial Photography - FPV goggles already exist, but having your vision and camera controls locked to your head will enable pilots to focus more on flying! Use of HUD also applies to various other sectors - i.e. machinery operation.
So much more.. I'm really excited to see what VR will bring in the coming years.
Marketing. Why show a video of something when you can let people experience it for themselves, from their very own home?
Porn.

I can see VR being used a lot more in remote sensing, with devices like the new Nokia Ozo VR camera being released you fit one of these to vehicle and allow as many users to access the feed as you have the bandwidth for.
A deep sea diver, an astronaut, or any remote worker could broadcast live 3D footage back to a group of engineers/advisors around the world to get advice on how to repair damage, or they can show in realtime 3D what is going on. Eventually the remote worker could be replaced by a robot but normally the man on the ground is more flexible to changing situations.
VR systems will also allow tourists to visualize places that they would be unlikely to be able to physically visit, ie being able to walk around the inside of the pyramids or explore sunken ships.
They can also be used to train first responders on what to expect when they arrive at an incident.
Design and marketing.
Sport, imagine watching an F1 race from the cockpit of your driver of choice, then jump in and take over if you don't like how it's going. Or whacking a 360 degree camera on a football referee's head and watching from that POV?

I could see this been used for shopping online buying groceries, virtual banking or watching flims and netflix. Could be used in astrology interacting with different planets in the solar system. Could be used for the elderly or for those who cannot get out much any more, watching films or go on a virtual tour of a museum going through history with a virtual tour guide, the possibilities are endless.
VR lounges used for holidays, Total Recall style in a way.
Or you could go down the medical route and use them for psychological therapy.
