Microsoft lets OneDrive users keep existing 15GB free storage

And if you took the 15GB camera roll bonus, you can keep that too. You just have to 'opt in'.

Thanks MS. But no thanks. I'm about as likely to do that as I am to send Google a Christmas card.

Re: Microsoft lets OneDrive users keep existing 15GB free storage

Just popped into my OneDrive account to see if there was some sort of notice. There wasn't. However, on the Storage page I saw that I have 15 GB free storage and an additional 10 GB free storage as loyalty bonus. I wonder how much of that will be there in 2016.

BTW, how does one get that camera roll bonus?

Yes, thanks to the idiots who decided to have several TB's of backup on OneDrive which was advertised and pushed as an unlimited service. Shame on them for trying to use it.

pretty sure couple people utilizing x TB on cloud storage is like <1% of the space they will gain by banning thousands of people using 15GB instead of 5GB... Microsoft is just blowing smoke in face

"Unlimited" is always going to cause issues.

Reckless promises from Microsoft caused this problem.

Absolutely, they caused the problem for themselves, and now they have fixed it.

They haven't fixed anything IMO as there was nothing to fix in the first place, if anyone thinks the contract you sign when you start using a service is going to be the same when it comes time to renew the contract you're kidding yourself, like it or not a service provider can change a contact anyway they like and it's your choice if you sign that new contract or not.

Quite. But it relies on a marketing methodology that hybridises "loss leader" with "bait and switch". It might be legal but it's pretty unpleasant. Then again, after what MS did with Win10, that should come as no surprise.

Re: Microsoft lets OneDrive users keep existing 15GB free storage

Good on you Microsoft! I said it was a boneheaded piece of knee-jerkery to cut it the way you did, nice to see that sense prevailed and it's been brought into an acceptable (to me at least) setup.

Actually, they still deserve a slapping over claiming "unlimited storage" - any half decent ambulance-chasing lawyer could have "fun" with that since as a concept "unlimited storage" isn't even doable.

Career status: still enjoying my new career in DevOps, but it's keeping me busy...
