Well they needed something to counteract all the bad press they've recently been getting for simply taking advantage of half-baked tax laws.
It's pretty bold of Google to show such a gesture when it's such a controversial topic in Europe. Will generate positive and negative opinions from everyone. And, in typical American fashion, it's really just an advertisement ploy. /sigh

Never mind being controversial in Europe - have a think how encouraging "wet backs"* is going to play to the domestic (US) audience. Especially a certain Republican candidate - you know ... 'amster 'ead wiv 'is wall!
* EDIT: realised that - after I typed it - that this was an unfortunate turn of phrase - no insult intended, plus I actually find that particular US description pretty unpleasant.

Good for Google, although they will probably write this off against tax in Germany too.
I suppose if they make a similar offer to other countries supporting refugees then the Danish Government will confiscate them to pay for their stay?
Migrants do better here ... they get given cash to buy a car.
I suspect that many of these "free" computers will end up at car-boot sales and local markets, like most donations of goods as aid.
