Whoopy, thanks Microsoft.
Seems that XP market share is going back up

One thing I've always wondered with these bean counters is what OS do they class as "other", is it Linux?
Masterly understatement!Microsoft has been observed to have been fairly aggressively promoting Windows 10 upgrades.
Still, got my Windows 7 well fire walled on a VM, with a couple of snapshots I can go back to if I accidentally get the 'upgrade'.

I don't understand all the hate. I'm really happy with 10
I'm eagerly awaiting August 2016. Microsoft stated the "upgrade" to Windows 10 would be free for 1 year. Does that mean we will finally stop being pestered by Microsoft once August arrives?

No, it means they'll be pestering you to upgrade AND demanding money for the privilege
I'm one of those who's happily on the Win 10 bandwagon and really enjoying the experience (particularly on my 2-in-1), but I'm also happy to feed companies my data in return for free services, so I'm obviously going to have less problems with some of the privacy concerns.
The surprise for me from that graph isn't the Win 7 numbers - they'll be heavily driven by corporate networks which are always slow to upgrade OS (it's only a couple of years back that we got universal coverage of Win 7 at my employer). It's that the Win 8/8.1 combined figure is still higher than Win 10, despite the universal panning that Win 8 got, and the huge imporvements that Win 10 makes over Win 8. I can understand Win 7 users not shifting: Win 10 is very different. But Win 8/8.1 users not shifting makes little sense to me...
The flip side, if like me you only use Windows for gaming, then there is no reason to upgrade as I would get the same gaming experience as under Windows 7.
Given my single use of playing Elite under Windows I am sure I will "upgrade" at some point, but it is bound to be some hassle and until recently Elite with AMD graphics wasn't playable multi user under Win10. But still, with Windows you want to be with the rest of the herd to make sure things work so given at some point Win10 will be the mainstream I know at some point I will have to bother upgrading.
My wife's PC is still flaking out and I am convinced it is a driver issue. I might try to convince her to do the upgrade just to see if it is more stable for her.
Unbelievable. How can a completely new OS with new terms and agreements simply be pushed as a recommended update? What about people who have updates set to automatic, does it install all updates and hence install win 10 or is it only important updates?
I have no faith at all in the MS update system for windows 7 etc. I have set all (family) machines to manual update only because I've got no idea which are safe to install. I note that KB2952664 has re-appeared even though I've hidden it 3 times now. I now feel that I have to guard against MS malware on my own machine.

I may be in a minority but my HTPC runs W8.1 and windows media centre (with My Movies addon - perfect). There is no way I am upgrading and losing the ability to run WMC.
In fact as OS for an HTPC W8.1 works very well
Odds that W10 will be reclassified as "Essential Update" by July 1st?
I miss WINDOWS STARTER EDITION that costed only $50.......MICROSOFT nowadays is boooring coz of costs.
