The LG G3's screen to body ratio is what made it so popular. The G4 grew bigger despite having the same design and I it seems like the G5 will be bigger still despite the smaller main screen due to this battery on a tray ######y. Just make the back removable and keep it small.
My hands have stopped growing. Can phones with removable batteries do the same?
Hopefully a bit less heavy than the LG4. And just when I decided the LG4 was the way to go to replace my HTC one x!!
am not sure about the removable battery idea...Before the battery dies the phone will be very much outdated.
Apologies if the replies below make me sound like an LG fan boy - not my intention (and if you don't believe that - ask my opinion of my LG monitor)
Problem is that LG seemed to have decided to pander to the journalist idiots (no, no, not including you 'mtyson') who were bitching and whining that the G3/G4's plastic backs totally ruined them as top end phones, because "all premium phones must be metal". My youngest daughter got a G4 for Christmas and it doesn't seem more than a mil or two bigger than my ole G3, which I can live with
G4 isn't heavy. Actually I'd say that my G3 could do with a little more heft so I didn't keep thinking that it'd fallen out of my pockets!
With the greatest of respect, you're wrong. Consensus is that batteries typically start going downhill after about 12 months of "normal" use. And my usage seems to start showing drop offs in capacity in about 14-16 months. Which means, I suppose, that a lack of removable/replaceable battery isn't a deal breaker if you change phones yearly, but I don't, and instead hold onto mine for 2-3 years. Removable batteries also offer the chance to replace with a (slightly) higher capacity one.
As to the G5, I'm torn. So far the artists impressions have shown something that looks pretty similar to the dull merry-go-round of Galaxy & iPhones. Oh, and the mounting of volume controls on the back is useful to me - means that my Ram X-Grip screen mount doesn't end up pushing on the volume keys, plus the fact that they're central (okay, on the back) means that they're just as convenient (or otherwise!) for left or right handed folks.
The battery life of my LG G4 phone has been great despite the stupid 2560x1440 resolution and this looks like a nice improvement aesthetically.
The LG G4 is far from heavy, just about right I'd say.
The description above says the the volume controls have been moved to the side of the phone.Originally Posted by crossy

Pick a reason. If you can't think of any uses for a removable battery or don't care about the aforementioned, then go ahead and buy an easily scratchable, dentable, signal blocking and non shock absorbing aluminium clad "premium" phone.
Funnily enough my kid was commenting at the weekend that "her" G4 has pretty decent battery life - certain no complaints (unlike the S3 she had before).
Yep, didn't explain myself properly - what I was getting at was that the non-standard placement of volume keys in current G's actually works pretty well for me, so if G5 goes with the mainstream "slapped on the side" then that's a (minor?) downgrade in my book. And yes, I was one of those folks who initially poured scorn on the idea of back mounted controls ... until I had to use them!
Excellent write-up. Mirrors most of my thoughts exactly. I must admit, though, that the G5 hadn't been on my radar until now. I'm still looking for that perfect replacement for my aging Galaxy S2 (with an equally aging battery), and subsequent Galaxy S models aren't it.
Contrary to some in this thread I actually find that rumored sliding battery tray intriguing. However, I can't help visualizing a situation where I'm talking on the phone and suddenly the tray slides out. Like that movie (can't remember which) where someone releases the ammo clip instead of firing the gun.
