Very nice. Do you happen to know the dimensions? I'm liking the choice of phones in the £2-300 range these days - they're finally getting the message about battery etc. as well. Shame not a OLED based display I guess.

Xiaomi could just do with a UK distributor ala OnePlus now.

Ta. Just a little bit too big for me, but the right size for many.

(And it turns out the display is 1080p, for those wondering).

Just the size for chinese people. For some reason, they all seem to love these big phones, which 95% of them can only operate with two hands. Seems descent though.

Re: Xiaomi Mi5 flagship smartphone priced from £219

I picked up a Xiaomi Redmi Note 2 32gb model recently from gearbest for £110. Lovely device. Beats most £200 (and even some £300 phones). Hope they sort out UK distribution soon. MIUI is also surprising nice - just a bit too IOS'y for me but the configurability is really nice. Wonder if this new model will have dual SIM, microSDs slot and a removable battery too?

GSM Arena says no removable battery or SD card. So its weird that one of the FB pictures from Xiaomi shows the battery exposed...

Re: Xiaomi Mi5 flagship smartphone priced from £219

    The base version comes with 32Gb storage anyway. But there's options for 64Gb or 128Gb as well (32Gb = £219, 128Gb = £320ish?...so 64Gb will be around £250-£260 I expect).

No MicroSD, but with the higher storage options it's probably not an issue.
It does have dual nano sim, so there is that

    No removable battery though...

It'll either be the Xiaomi Mi 5 Pro or Samsung S7 for me. Just need to see camera samples from the Mi 5 before I can decide if I'm willing to compromise camera quality for a few hundred.

Same, if the camera quality is up to scratch I may have found my new phone.

Re: Xiaomi Mi5 flagship smartphone priced from £219

No Xiaomi flagship smarthphone has an SD slot or a user replaceable battery. No point in quoting the price in pound sterling as you will struggle to buy them with anything other than a US dollar. Imported products will be much, much more expensive if you prefer to buy in local currency (but without local service/support).

Xiaomi's popularity is fizzling out. Their continued artificially created supply shortage shenanigans probably aren't helping either. I tried buying a Redmi 2 last year and I waited a month to be told that an "in stock" item is not in stock anywhere in the world. This was for the 2GB RAM version and it seemed that Xiaomi really didn't want to sell those

Re: Xiaomi Mi5 flagship smartphone priced from £219

I've got a Xiaomi Mi Note as I was tired of waiting for the Mi5 to turn up. Got to say the specs are lovely for the price as per usual but the massive bezels and design just put me off.

Hopefully they upgrade the Mi Note with the same specs as this and I would probably upgrade (even though I don't really need to!) - although sometimes I feel 5.7" is a bit big as I have rather average sized hands.

The Xiaomi Mi4S is also really interesting at 1699RMB (~£199) and I would definitely pick it over the OnePlus X:

    Snapdragon 808
    3GB RAM
    64GB + MicroSD
    5" 1080p
    13MP f/2.0 primary camera + 5MP f/2.0 secondary camera
    USB type C
    Wireless AC
    Quick Charge 2.0
    3260mAh battery
    Fingerprint reader
    4G/LTE
    139.3 x 70.8 x 7.8 mm

Main downside is no NFC, and again, rather big bezels and a bit thicker than some of the competition (although it does have a bigger battery!)

Paying the extra £20 does get you a brighter screen, Snapdragon 820, better camera, NFC, narrower and thinner phone in the form of the Mi5 though.

That is nice. Shame again the display isn't OLED like the OnePlusX's, but everything else is pretty nice. Definitely prefer phones that are <140mm long yet still fit in a 1080p display. Decent battery too - I can only hope they sell them over here where they would seem a good match!

From my note 2 it is weekly however it's not cutting edge android. Mine is still on 5.0 - 6.0 is due soon (The note 2 is only 6 months old). I've also had to go for the xiaomi.eu rom rather than the offical ROM as it doesn't support the UK as a region. The Xiaomi.eu roms are also delievered weekly if you go for the developer ROM (which has root). The standard consumer ROMs are released a lot slower.
