With 1075 games in my Steam library, this is great news.
Very good news. I've not purchased many bundles as I've often had a quarter of the bundle already. Just hope the steam deals get better as they've not been that good recently.
Depending on the discount which I wouldn't expect to be 1:1 - just getting giftable/marketable copies of the duplicate titles would be more appealing to me.
TBH I have also not bothered buying some bundles because I owned elements of the bundle already, however, I did work out on each occasion that the bundle price is still relatively good and would have saved me SOME money, just not as much.
I think this approach is a good idea, and I applaud the effort to address it.
However I would also like to see the option to buy a bundle and have the duplicate items made available as keys that can be given to family, i.e. I could buy a Dawn of War II bundle and I already have the core game and first DLC, so I would like the option of gifting those items to my son... probably a bit of a headache for Steam/valve to manage though I guess. Still I am sure it is something they could get to work at some point.
Will it also include the deals when the Game of the Year addition comes out. These packs are often worth paying for just to get the dlc for a game you already have.
Yeah, Steam suck, they're money-grabbing evil cretis who offer such a bad service and only exist to stuff the customer.... yeah....
Very good to hear this!!
A very good addition to Steam, clearly there are plenty of us who have avoided purchasing some bundles on offer for this very reason in the past.
Doesn't seem to work for the bundles in the current Square-Enix weekend sale.
If it is working it's not clear that it's providing additional discount.
I would expect the discount to be proportional to the price of each game I own in the bundle, which would most likely be less than buying just a title that is on sale.
That said, sometimes Steam is odd. The other day I bought a game that was 50% off, it showed me 2 available DLC packs that I could add from the same page, for £3.18 for both, yet if I looked at one of the DLC packs, it showed there was an identical DLC bundle pack for £2.29!
It did always irk me that you didn't get a giftable or sellable copy of the game if you already owned it, seemed very unfair.
This bundle strategy has worked well for Gog.com, so i dont see why it wouldnt also work for Steam.
I personally havent bought Steam bundles in a long time, since there was usually always one or more games that i already had, and wasting money isnt my style.
The bundles on Gog.com i have happily bought
This is good news, i think i read somewhere that steam were going to offer a pay monthly service like origin?
