"Timescales for the Steam Controller v2 hardware revision release weren't discussed."
That's annoying. Was considering one of these or a new mouse. Not having even a vague date puts me right off. Why would I buy something when a new version will be released anytime now?
Good, I have the original steam controller and love it to bits but there are definitely bits I'd change. For one, lithium ion rechargeable batteries because no matter how long AA batteries last they're still inconvenient. Combine with point two which is increase the weight and reinforce bits to give it a solid feeling, and the two go together pretty well. Seriously the steam controller is light but a little too light, for instance the rumble of the touchpads seems to come through in other parts of the device like the triggers and makes a sort of rattling sound.
Are these any good then? Does it improve the experience of playing on the big TV for you guys?
By the reviews I have read, player feedback on various games and the fact they are redesigning, I think it's a combination of what title your playing and whether it feels right for you.
Once v2 gets here, I may take a look but currently enjoying the XB1 pad too much to risk £40 on what is essentially a brand new design that will probably gain a lot from one or two iterations.

i got a steam controller at xmas and since then it has actually replaced my x360 controller i use on my pc, the right trackpad is a godsend in games. camera control is much more intuitive now. and when a game supports good use of the gyro, it's amazing! i'll never look back from it on pc :-)
A revision would be welcome at this point. Had mine since launch and the main improvement I'd like to see is a headset/mic jack for in-game Voice Chat. Otherwise its just minor changes like easier to press Bumpers, refining the visual design (the shiny plastic was a terrible idea) and some better filters for controller schemes (there are some truly terrible profiles that are popular simply because they were posted first).
Overall I remain very positive about the Steam Controller and use it every week. Was a bit of a wacky product at first but with the rapid evolution of the software and some truly intuitive controller schemes posted by the community its a great controller to use.
