I don't think these will sell well at all. Months of battery life is just unnecessary to almost everyone, especially those who can afford the cost of one of these.
Also doesn't seem like much of a step up from a Kindle Voyage or even a Kindle Paperwhite!
Seven times the cost of the Paperwhite!!! They need to change that otherwise I don't see many selling.
I use a Nexus 7 2013 as a non-exclusive reader. No way am I gonna pay $1K for a Kindle, or any Kindle for that matter. A tablet, to me, is the only way to go.
Surely that isn't the real price. I would hope it was just a place holder until it's officially released.

Really struggling to see a point to this when my Nook was £30 and can read books. Heck the one with a light was £50. Left and right handed use solved by having mirrored buttons and bezel on both sides, it's got wifi if you really need it. Stores gazillions of books due to having a micro sd slot. Is touchscreen (if you really need to).
More than likely much less than 300dpi, but then if the text small enough to require the extra dpi then it's not big enough to comfortably read, and I read text smaller than 'normal' size.
Failing that I could just use my windows tablet, which £50, again has a microSD slot, has wifi but no 3g, and does a lot more.
1k dollas for a ebook that has an evenly lit, books aren't evenly lit and we had them for over 100's of years without any complaints about that, also they last for 100's of years without charging. The price is so blinking stupid it can not be true.
I'm in the market for a new Kindle but there's NO circumstances under which I'd contemplate >3x the price if the Voyage. I'm even arguing about spending much that with myself.
Don't get me wrong. I'm a Kindle fan. I have had several and use one pretty much daily. But that sorta price? Hell, no, not even if it was a full colour version of an e-ink screen with all the battery benefits that go with that. So unless that price is way, WAY wrong (and it may be if it's just a placeholder) then, in the words of Dragon's Den, for that reason .... I'm out.
Most e-tail software I've been involved with defaults to a 999.99 price in whichever currency it's using until overwritten, largely so if someone accidentally pushes a product live when it shouldn't (like this example,) nobody tries to order one as the cost is silly. Until an official announcement I'd assume that's the case here and I'd be surprised if it launches at even half that price.

This is interesting to me, in that it may force the price of the Paperwhite and Voyager lower, and I'm possibly looking to replace my ageing Touch

I think it's a rip off to be honest. £280?! Slimmer or not.
And it STILL only comes with 1 year warranty? Nothing screams quality like a manufacturer unwilling to stand by its product for more than 12 months . . . .
No thanks Amazon.

Here's an official press release we've just been sent.
Impressive looking device but one would hope that the stated price is a placeholder rather than genuine. The selling point of these devices is that they're very affordable.
Maybe not then.
