I'm more worried about the drop off for Skylake since this is the last processor from Intel to support windows 8.1 and down.

They have given corporate customer far to little time to update their desktop structure to windows 10, I predict a run on the Skylake CPU PC's towards the end of the production period as people scramble to get enough stocks to tide them over until they can migrate their desktop estates.

It still pisses me of that Microsoft and Intel think this is an acceptable practice!

Good point. Console wins have been their best promotional victories in the last few years. AMD must keep their advantage in that market.

Seems very unlikely. Most corporate infrastructure has a 3 year life cycle and uses business class processors, which tend to have longer support timeframes anyway. My PC at work was replaced in the last few months, and I've got a Haswell i5 running Windows 7. That'll be stable for the next three years - plenty of time for my employers to plan a Win 10 roll-out. Dell currently do their optiplex business desktops with a choice of 4th or 6th generation Core i, and both sets have Windows 7 pre-installed (the vast majority of big corporations will still be on Win 7).

And ultimately if there is a major corporation out there who wants to upgrade in 2 - 3 years time and stay on Windows 7, and if Intel aren't still producing business class processors that will support Windows 7, I'd put money on there being a competitive AMD solution available at that point... and if that is the case you can better your bottom dollar that Intel will suddenly find a way to support Windows 7 and 8 on their newer platforms...

It's worth noting that Intel haven't confirmed anything yet with regards to this story - it's all speculation, even if it's well informed speculation...

Though it may make a lot of sense to focus on the GPU releases & Bristol Ridge etc (as per the AMD slide on the ET link); until DigiTimes cites a source, I'll regard this as purely speculative.

I work in the Deployment section of an IT Department for a Government Department and we like many others through out the world do not have the funds to be able to stick to a 3 year cycle, I know of others in and outside in the sector also in this position as the recession has decimated budgets for refreshment due to PC performance now generally outstripping current software demands for the bulk of users.

Also to be clear Microsoft has made agreements with Intel and AMD to end support for Windows 8.1 and below for newer processors after 2016/2017, it has been reported earlier on this year and I have confirmed this with our HP business account manager. Most large businesses have only went to Windows 7 in the last 3-5 years anyway.

New processors will still run old versions of windows and any other software.
That software just will not take advantage of new features in the cpu as it has not been coded for it.

Like using a quad core for windows 3.1
It'll work just fine, jut not going to use anywhere near it's full potential.

I don't see much reason to put stock in this report until we see further evidence to back it up, as all current reports point to Zen being on time for Q3/4 2016.

That said, if it is true, then it'll be another blow to AMD, as they'll be even further delayed in enthusiasts wanting to buy their CPUs again.

Depends on what grade of card you want, and how much store you put in unsupported and unsourced rumours.

AMD will be releasing mainstream & mid-range gaming cards this summer. The enthusiast cards will be coming out towards the end of the year, and the most reliable information we have so far is that AMD is also aiming for an end-of-year launch for the first Zen CPUs. If you want to build an enthusiast grade gaming machine, it's still just as likely that you'll be able to get the next gen cards and CPUs at the same time...

As long as the console in question isn't a Gameboy

TBH though, I'm not convinced integrated graphics will ever be that interesting if one company does it better. The only way it matters is the slowest of the big selling parts, as that is the worst case that games writers have to cope with. So when the cheap Intel graphics starts going faster then people notice.
